Spike Work (creating the turkey spike so you can later tie the rooster hackles on)

- Dowel size 1/4”, length of dowel will vary but overall should be either under 5” or 7” depending on shape of bustle (from base loop to the bead/string hole), tape the dowel on

with masking tape.

-clipping the turkey spike feather (fletch only, not quill) is difficult and sometimes requires refocus and always measuring from your marker feather. You need to always remember

to cut the same length as your marker feathers. Remember to make sure there is enough of the quill left on turkey spike to add the extension zip tie.

-cut the box end off every zip tie. tape the extension zip tie (7” for kids set/11” for 3 row set) on with masking tape, try not to use too much as it will make bustle heavier. Try tape

at an angle lengthwise.

-installing base loop zip tie (4” with both ends cut off) each spike needs one. (This is harder step) Make sure loop is big enough for a shoelace string to fit through but not too big,

ideally 3/16”.

- re count spikes to make sure you have enough (20-22 per side and a middle spike per bustle) so you realistically need four sections for a hackle bustle set (top right, top left,

bottom right, bottom left).

-measure and mark the places you are going to tie the rooster hackles on each spike with a sharpie. From the edge of your clipping of spike feather upwards, you should make

markings of 2.5”, 5” and 8.5”. #bustles #powwow #worksjop #create #nativetiktok
