MARATHON 5 OF 7 ✅ EUROPE!

Today we raced in the most beautiful coastal town in Portugal. The energy was off the charts. The entire town came out to cheer, the weather was perfect, and the GWR racer community was incredible as usual. It felt like everything aligned and something really unexpected happened for me: I got my best marathon time for the entire week - 4:42:02! I can’t believe it! I’m genuinely surprised over and over that despite my internal monologue feeding my worry, I’m able to go farther. Two more races left. Time to make every moment count. Lining up for the Colombia race soon!

... Read moreRunning a marathon is as much a mental challenge as it is a physical one, and sharing this experience across multiple continents in just one week is an extraordinary feat. The Great World Race (GWR) community fosters a unique camaraderie among runners, who support each other through this demanding journey. The coastal towns of Portugal offer not only stunning scenery but also an enthusiastic crowd that uplifts participants, creating a powerful energy surge that can propel runners to achieve personal bests. Achieving a marathon time of 4:42:02 after multiple races is a testament to proper pacing, mental resilience, and the motivation derived from the environment and community. Local cheering crowds play a crucial role by boosting morale and distracting from fatigue. Weather conditions also heavily influence performance; Portugal’s perfect climate on race day enhanced endurance and comfort. This event is part of a broader challenge of running 7 marathons on 7 continents within one week, an endeavor that requires meticulous planning and recovery strategies. Preparation includes optimizing nutrition, hydration, and rest to combat cumulative fatigue. The mental dialogue, often filled with self-doubt, can be reframed with positive affirmations and motivation drawn from each accomplishment, underscoring the surprise and joy in surpassing one’s limits. With two races remaining, including an upcoming marathon in Colombia, each moment counts. The journey showcases the dynamic interplay between physical capability and psychological strength, enriched by cultural experiences and global friendships. For those inspired to try multi-marathon challenges, embracing community support and appreciating local environments can transform the experience from mere endurance to truly memorable achievements.
