GLIMMERS ✨
Good morning, friends! Yesterday was full of little glimmers in the garden and kitchen. The chickens got a special treat—a giant pumpkin spice seed block they’re absolutely loving! I also thinned out my carrots, beets, and radishes, feeding those fresh bits to the chickens and quails. Plus, I saved a bunch of seeds and am letting most of my plants hang on as long as possible before the frost arrives. I even planted walking onions and can’t wait to see how they’ll grow and look next spring. Tonight’s dinner was a tasty stir fry rice, made with a new rice seasoning and fresh eggs from our chickens—delicious! I’m soaking up every moment of this season and all the small wonders it brings. #GardenGlimmers #foryoupage #WalkingOnions #ChickenLife #SeedSaving
Autumn is truly a special time in the garden, especially when you start experimenting with plants like walking onions, which are hardy and easy to grow. Walking onions thrive best when planted in loose soil, with the pointed end up and the bulb halfway buried, ideally at temperatures between 55 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s key to water these onions regularly during the first week to ensure good establishment, whether they receive full sun or part shade. This method helps the onions develop robust bulbs and ensures you’ll have a successful harvest the following spring. Seed saving is another rewarding practice highlighted here. By collecting seeds from your carrots, beets, and radishes, you not only sustain your garden but also encourage biodiversity and adaptability in your crops over time. Making sure to save seeds before the first frost maximizes their viability. Including delicious fresh eggs from your chickens in meals, like a flavorful stir fry rice enhanced with gourmet rice seasonings, brings the garden-to-table experience to life. Feeding your chickens and quails with garden thinnings, such as carrot and beet greens, creates a sustainable cycle of nourishment that benefits your animals and garden ecosystem. Careful attention to seasonal transitions allows your plants to flourish and capture the essence of each moment in the garden. Embracing these small but meaningful glimmers—whether in planting, harvesting, or cooking—creates a fulfilling and sustainable lifestyle that gardeners and backyard poultry enthusiasts alike will appreciate.
