Many times in life, we tend to search far and wide for happiness, believing it's something distant and unattainable. However, through my own experiences, I've realized that what we often consider treasures or sources of joy are actually very close to us, sometimes even right in our hands. It’s easy to overlook the small, everyday things that bring happiness — like spending quality time with loved ones, appreciating nature’s beauty, or being grateful for good health and simple comforts. In today’s fast-paced world, we can become so focused on chasing bigger goals or material success that we forget to value what’s already present around us. I remember a moment when I was chasing after external achievements, thinking they would bring me lasting happiness. But when I took a step back, I saw that my closest relationships and the simple joys I had been neglecting were the real sources of contentment. This change of perspective helped me find peace and gratitude, even during challenging times. Incorporating mindfulness and gratitude into daily life can shift our focus from seeking external validation to appreciating internal wealth. This idea resonates with a Haitian proverb that reminds us: “Anpil fwa sa nap chache bine loin an se menm tresor nou t gen nan men nou” — often we look for good things far away but the treasure was already in our hands. So, the key is to always pause and reflect on what really matters. By valuing what is important and near, we build a foundation of true happiness that isn't dependent on circumstance. Remember, sometimes the greatest happiness is found by simply opening your eyes to the treasures that have always been with you.
