Healing from stress addiction?
I’ve recently come to realize that my body is addicted to stress, which I’ve come to realize is my coping mechanism to triggers.
When your body is addicted to stress, it physically needs to have these elevated hormones in order to run. If you don’t feel “wired” from cortisol, then you feel groggy and like you have been hit by a wall.
This is not healthy or sustainable long term, and it causes downstream effects that lead to hormonal and nervous system issues such as issues with the thyroid, sex hormones, digestion etc…
Some signs that you body is addicted to stress include:
1) Checking your phone/emails straight away
2) Not being hungry in the morning so only having coffee for “breakfast”
3) Working through or skipping lunch to work
4) Relaxation at night includes watching a show or YouTube while scrolling on social media
5) Needing a drink in order to “unwind”
it can be hard to break the addiction, and your body may feel “worse” before it feels “better”. But in the long term, you are nourishing yourself by improving your internal energy system and coming from a place of relaxation and calmness.
Something’s you can do to start breaking the cycle include:
1) Balancing blood sugar
2) Optimizing your sleep
3) Nourishing your adrenals
4) Choose gentle movements
5) Support your nervous system
6) Reduce reliance on stimulants
7) Minimize inflammation
8) Set boundaries
9) Address emotional stress
10) Create calming routines
I hope this can help🤍
