If you’re still in the holiday spirit or quietly dealing with that post-Christmas slump, this book might be the perfect in-between for you. ✨
I’m pretty sure this book exists as a regular novel too, but I bought the advent version to be my calendar countdown to Christmas.
I really enjoyed it and had to stop myself from reading ahead every day. The main character’s storyline and experience really resonated with me, especially navigating life with a medical condition and sometimes deciding whether to take that extra risk to have fun. The romance part of the book was also super cute even though I can’t imagine being with my siblings best friend hahahah.
This ended up being the last book I finished in 2025, even though I didn’t include it in my wrap. Felt like it needed its own highlight coz it’s my first time getting an advent book and I’m looking forward to experiencing more advent books this year (I know we’re still in January 🫣).
If you’re looking for a pick me up and want a simple romance Christmas, I definitely recommend this. Happy reading 📚
... Read moreIf you enjoy books that blend heartwarming romance with relatable life challenges, advent books like "The In-Between" offer a unique way to experience a story—one chapter at a time leading up to Christmas. Having tried this advent calendar book format myself, I can say it transforms reading into a daily ritual that builds anticipation and enhances the holiday atmosphere.
What makes advent books special is the pace: instead of binge-reading, you savor the narrative slowly, allowing each chapter’s emotions and moments to sink in deeply. This slower pace can be particularly soothing if you’re feeling the post-holiday slump or want a gentle pick-me-up throughout December.
I found that incorporating the advent romance element adds a charming twist to traditional holiday reads. Sophie Jomain’s "The In-Between," with its engaging main character navigating both medical challenges and personal joys, offers an inspiring look at resilience and finding happiness in uncertain moments. The cute romance subplot also adds warmth without overwhelming the story.
Many readers find a real connection to protagonists facing medical conditions, as it reflects the tough decisions we sometimes make between safety and fun. The book’s accessible style, combined with the countdown format, makes it a delightful way to reconnect with the Christmas spirit, even well into the new year.
If you’re curious about advent books or looking for a simple yet meaningful romance to brighten your holiday season (or even January), I highly recommend giving this format a try. It’s a fresh approach to holiday storytelling that extends the joy beyond December 25th and encourages mindful reading. Plus, it’s a great introduction to more advent books, which are becoming a lovely trend among festive readers.
