Not all pain feels the same.

During my clinical attachment, I realised something…

Many of us say “it hurts” or just “pain”…

but that doesn’t tell us much.

The way you describe your pain

can completely change how we understand it

and what might be causing it.

So I thought - why not share some ways

you can better describe your pain? 🗒️

In this post, I go through some common types of pain

and how they’re usually described. 😫😥😓😖

Being able to describe your pain more clearly

can actually make a big difference

when you’re talking to a doctor or nurse.

📌 Save this for future reference

or share it with someone who always says “it just hurts”

... Read moreWhen it comes to describing pain, I've found that being specific really helps both in personal understanding and when communicating with doctors. For example, instead of just saying "it hurts," try to identify if the pain is sharp, throbbing, burning, or cramping. From my own experience, describing pain as "pins and needles" or a tingling sensation helped a doctor recognize nerve-related issues rather than muscle pain. Similarly, characterizing pain as "burning" or "on fire" pointed toward inflammation. Using terms such as "pressure" or "squeezing" helped differentiate muscular tension from other types of discomfort. It’s important also to mention whether the pain comes in waves or is constant, if it feels like an electric shock or dull ache, or if it is localized or radiates elsewhere. Sharing these nuances can lead to quicker, more accurate diagnoses. One tip that worked well for me was writing down pain descriptions in a notebook or app before appointments. This avoids forgetting details and makes it easier to discuss symptoms clearly. If you often say "it just hurts," try to observe and note what the sensation reminds you of—prickling, pulsing, stabbing, or something else. Overall, the more precise you are with your pain descriptions, the better your healthcare provider can understand your symptoms and guide you towards the appropriate treatment. This detailed communication can prevent misdiagnosis and reduce frustration during medical consultations.

You know that Monday morning feeling. The alarm goes off. And before you even get out of bed, the weight of the whole week is already sitting on your chest. Not because you hate your life. Not because you are ungrateful. Just because it feels like the only option. Same routine. Same cei

Jaw clicking is common — but not all clicks mean the same thing.
Some sounds happen when the mouth opens very wide, like during a yawn. That type is usually just a temporary overextension of the joint and often not a concern. But there’s another type — the one that happens during normal movements like talking, chewing, or opening and closing your mouth.

How do you treat heel pain? 🤔

Last year, I got really into hiking, and I often went on long walks on the weekends. 🥾After a while, I noticed that my right heel was swollen and had a stabbing pain. 😰 In the morning, stepping on the ground felt like being poked with needles, and after walking for a long time, the pain became e

What betrayals actually feels like
Betrayal doesn’t just break your heart—it breaks your perception of reality. You find yourself replaying memories, conversations, moments—desperately searching for signs you missed, clues that could explain why it happened. It makes you question your own judgment, your intuition, even your worth.
