Not everyone deserves an explanation
Hot take: not everyone deserves an explanation. 😶
We’ve been taught to explain ourselves for everything—but why?

From my own experience, realizing that not everyone deserves an explanation has been liberating. Society often pushes us to justify our actions endlessly, but I've found that this habit can drain emotional energy and blur personal boundaries. Sometimes, a simple "no" or choosing silence without further justification not only protects your time but also your mental well-being. Setting healthy boundaries requires confidence and self-respect. It means recognizing that your feelings and limits are valid without needing to defend them to everyone around you. Over-explaining often comes from a place of seeking approval, but that can lead to unnecessary stress and misinterpretation. In practice, opting for a silent exit or a brief response can be empowering. For example, if a request or conversation doesn’t feel right, responding with a polite but firm "I won’t be able to" rather than a detailed explanation preserves your energy and keeps relationships respectful. This perspective has also helped me manage toxic relationships or situations where others try to guilt-trip or pressure me. Not engaging in excessive explanations can shift control back to you, reinforcing your boundaries and emphasizing self-worth. Of course, it’s important to balance this approach with empathy and clear communication when appropriate—especially with close friends or family. But learning when to withhold explanations is a crucial life skill that fosters emotional freedom and nurtures a healthy sense of self.

Sometimes protecting your peace means keeping things to yourself and moving on.
