I’ll be honest, maintaining a workout schedule can be hard but it’s something I’ve tried to learn over the past two years! I try to go 3 days a week and build cardio into each workout and then accompany each with a post nature walk! How do you maintain your gym schedule? What’s your tips to others?
... Read moreIt's no secret that maintaining a consistent workout routine during the summer months can be a real challenge. Between the scorching heat, vacation plans, and a general desire to relax, hitting the gym can feel like an uphill battle. But it's totally possible to stay on track and even thrive with a smart strategy! I've found that having a structured yet flexible plan makes all the difference.
My personal approach centers around a 3-day per week gym schedule, thoughtfully split to hit different muscle groups, ensuring a balanced workout while allowing for recovery. On Mondays, I dedicate my session to Legs and Lower Body. This usually involves compound movements like squats (goblet or traditional), lunges (walking or reverse), and deadlifts (Romanian or sumo for glute focus). I'll also incorporate isolation exercises like leg presses, hamstring curls, and calf raises. The goal is to build strength and endurance in my foundation.
Tuesdays are all about Upper Body, targeting arms, chest, and back. For chest, I might do push-ups or dumbbell presses. Back exercises include bent-over rows, lat pulldowns, and face pulls. For arms, bicep curls and tricep pushdowns are staples. It’s about creating a strong, balanced upper physique.
Then, on Thursdays, I specifically focus on Abs and Glutes. For core strength, I love planks, Russian twists, and leg raises. For glutes, exercises like glute bridges, hip thrusts, cable kickbacks, and resistance band work are incredibly effective for shaping and strengthening. This focused day ensures these important muscle groups get dedicated attention.
What truly transforms these gym sessions for me is incorporating cardio. My secret weapon? 2-4 mile trail walks that accompany each workout. These aren't just cool-downs; they're an essential part of my routine. Getting out in nature, whether it's a brisk walk through a park or a challenging hike on a local trail, provides incredible mental and physical benefits. It helps with active recovery, boosts my mood, and adds that extra cardiovascular push without feeling like a chore.
For those days when time is tight or the gym isn't an option, I also love to utilize a quick TV 30 EXPRESS style workout. This could be a 30-minute high-intensity bodyweight circuit at home, following along with an online video, or a quick session focusing on one muscle group with dumbbells. It's perfect for keeping the momentum going even on busy days.
Beyond the routine itself, staying hydrated is paramount in summer. I always carry a large water bottle and make sure to sip throughout the day, especially around my workouts. Timing is also crucial; I try to schedule my more intense sessions for earlier in the morning or later in the evening to avoid the peak heat. Listening to my body is non-negotiable – if I'm feeling truly drained, I opt for a lighter session or a restorative walk. Small adjustments like these help maintain consistency and make summer workouts enjoyable rather than daunting. By combining structured gym days with refreshing outdoor cardio and quick express options, I've found a way to stay active, energized, and consistent all summer long!
That’s awesome you’re killing it . I learned I’m more inclined to go to my gym workout at night and it’s worked . I used plan it for early morning but ended up never being able to get up and go early enough so now planning them at night I never miss it x
I fractured my tailbone in June and I haven’t been able to workout but this just gave me the motivation to at least maybe try and walk as far as I can tomorrow! You go girl!
