POV: You chose nursing knowing good and well math was not your ministry. 😭💊

Dosage calculations honestly scare me 😭💊

One thing I want to do differently as I get closer to my nursing courses is be honest about the parts that scare me—and dosage calculations are HIGH on that list.

My program uses dimensional analysis, and eventually that 90%+ requirement is going to be staring me right in the face. So instead of waiting until winter and stressing myself completely out, I’m starting now.

I’ve been watching how A Blessed RN breaks the problems down, practicing little by little, and trying to understand the why behind the calculation instead of just memorizing steps.

I’m definitely not an expert. This is me learning in real time. And I think I’m going to document the process because I KNOW I’m not the only nursing student who sees dosage calculations and immediately starts bargaining with God. 😂

We’re getting ahead of the panic this time. 🩺✨

Are you a nursing student too? Tell me what dosage calculation topic gave you the MOST trouble. I need to know what’s waiting for me. 😭

#DosageCalculations #NursingStudent #NursingSchoolJourney #StudentNurse #EmergingCreator

7/20 Edited to

... Read moreAs someone stepping into the world of nursing, I completely understand the anxiety that comes with dosage calculations. It’s not just about math; it’s about ensuring patient safety and accuracy. One thing I’ve learned from my early practice is that approaching dosage calculations with dimensional analysis makes the entire process more manageable. Instead of memorizing formulas blindly, I focus on breaking down each problem to understand what units I’m working with and how they convert. This method helped me catch errors before finalizing answers—because an impossible dose could risk a patient's life. Another tip from my experience is to start practicing dosage problems well before clinical rotations begin. Waiting until the last minute only adds to the stress. I found that watching breakdowns from experienced nurses like A Blessed RN helped me see the why behind each step, which is critical for retention. Importantly, dosage calculations are directly tied to patient care, so accuracy is paramount. I always remind myself to double-check units, doses, and conversion factors. When in doubt, I pause and review rather than rush to an answer. If you’re struggling with similar fears, consider sharing your challenges and successes with fellow nursing students. It’s encouraging to know you’re not alone. Tackling dosage calculations early with patience and the right strategies can turn your fear into confidence—and that’s a vital skill for any nursing journey.
