Starting over to get into a nursing program 👩‍⚕️🏥👩‍⚕️

I was almost done with my bachelor degree in biology when I had to stop. It wasn’t my plan, but school fees were too high.

I have looked for jobs for whenever I was done with my bachelor I could start one, but it seemed like there was nothing I could do with that degree.

It was hard enough learning English and at the same time finishing up my degree, but the school fees being raised was too much for me.

I left with regrets but knowing in my mind that it was the right thing to do.

I applied at a community college near me and I am finishing up my prerequisites for nursing school.

I know nursing school is hard, but at least I have a guarantee of getting a job.

I owe it to my daughter to be financially independent so that she’ll never have to worry about anything.

Any tips for nursing school please??

... Read moreRestarting your education journey, especially in a challenging field like nursing, requires resilience and a strong support system. Many students who switch to nursing after pursuing other degrees find themselves motivated by job security and the desire to make a meaningful impact. It’s common to face fears and uncertainties when starting over. The OCR content highlights this anxiety with phrases like "Restarting school all over again and it's scary" and a personal commitment to "do it right” for one’s child. Balancing studies with personal responsibilities can be demanding, but having a clear goal, such as ensuring financial independence and stability for your family, often fuels success. Effective strategies for nursing school success include: 1. **Time Management**: Prioritize study schedules and clinical practice hours. Use planners or digital calendars to stay organized. 2. **Build a Study Support Network**: Connect with classmates, join study groups, or seek mentors who can offer guidance and encouragement. 3. **Utilize Campus Resources**: Take advantage of tutoring centers, language support programs (especially for ESL students), and counseling services. 4. **Practical Experience**: Gain hands-on experience through labs and internships, which is essential for nursing competencies. 5. **Self-Care**: Nursing school is rigorous; maintaining physical and mental health through balanced nutrition, exercise, and breaks improves learning capacity. Community colleges often provide an affordable and accessible path to complete prerequisites before entering nursing programs. For those who have paused higher education due to financial challenges, this route can be a viable stepping stone. Finally, embracing the emotional journey—acknowledging fears and regrets while focusing on future goals—is crucial. Commitment to one’s own and their family’s well-being, as expressed by the author, serves as a powerful motivator and foundation for achieving nursing career goals.
