Canada strongly condemns Israel's plans to occupy territory in southern Lebanon.
Lebanon's sovereignty & territorial integrity must not be violated. Hezbollah's attacks on Israel must cease and they must disarm.
Canada reiterates its solidarity with the government of Lebanon and its people.
We urge all parties to protect civilians, refrain from attacks on infrastructure, health workers, and peacekeepers, and act in accordance with international law.
Having closely followed the escalating tensions in southern Lebanon, I resonate deeply with Canada's firm stance on protecting Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Experiencing regional conflicts can be heartbreaking, especially when civilian lives and quality of life are at stake. It is essential that international actors like Canada not only voice condemnation of territorial occupations but also promote peaceful resolutions that prioritize human rights. From my observations, Hezbollah’s persistent attacks have indeed contributed to instability, underscoring the urgent need for disarmament to prevent further violence. Civilian infrastructure, healthcare providers, and peacekeeping forces frequently bear the brunt of such conflicts, amplifying the humanitarian crisis. Ensuring their safety is critical to maintaining some form of normalcy and safeguarding vulnerable populations. Furthermore, the call for adherence to international law is paramount. Respecting these laws reduces the risk of escalation and opens pathways for diplomatic dialogue. In my personal experience of following similar conflicts, the protection of medical personnel and basic infrastructure often serves as a barometer for peace efforts. International solidarity, like that expressed by Canada toward Lebanon’s government and people, sends a positive signal that the global community supports sovereignty and human rights. Ultimately, the resolution of conflicts in such sensitive regions must come through dialogue, negotiation, and meaningful disarmament processes. Without these, the cycle of violence and occupation will continue to undermine peace and stability, affecting countless innocent lives.
