... Read moreOkay, so you've seen my rave review for Amazon press-on nails, and you're probably thinking, 'How can I get that salon-quality look at home without breaking the bank?' Trust me, I've been there! After years of trying different methods, going full 'Press-On Girly' for my DIY at-home manicures has been a game-changer for my nail health and my wallet. One of the biggest reasons I switched to doing my own nails with artificial nails from Amazon is the sheer cost savings. A salon visit can easily cost $50-$80+, and that adds up fast. With my Amazon haul, I spent less than $20 for everything, and that includes multiple sets of nails and supplies that last for ages! Plus, my natural nails were getting so thin and brittle from constant acrylics or gel polish. Press-ons, when applied and removed correctly, have allowed my nails to breathe and grow stronger. Let me walk you through my simple DIY process to make sure your long, square-shaped artificial nails with a pink base and white French tips (or whatever style you choose!) last. First, prep is key! Don't skip this step. I start by gently pushing back my cuticles and lightly buffing the surface of my natural nails. This creates a rougher surface for the nail adhesive to grab onto. Then, a quick wipe with rubbing alcohol or a nail dehydrator ensures there's no oil or residue. This step is crucial for longevity! Next, the glue. The MAKARTT nail adhesive I mentioned is no joke – seriously strong! I apply a small bead to both my natural nail and the press-on itself. A common mistake is not using enough glue, which leads to early lifting. Once the glue is on, I press the artificial nail firmly onto my natural nail, holding it down for at least 15-20 seconds. Repeat for all fingers. Now, for that professional finish and extra durability, don't forget the base and top coat set. I use the JODSONE one. While the original article focused on the top coat, applying a thin layer of gel top coat over the entire press-on, especially sealing the free edge, makes a huge difference. This prevents snagging and chipping, making your DIY mani look fresh for longer. And yes, you'll need a small curing lamp to set that gel top coat! Even a cheap one works wonders. Finally, daily care. I swear by cuticle oil – even the mango-scented one from Dollar Tree works wonders! Keeping your cuticles and nails hydrated not only looks good but helps maintain the integrity of your press-ons. Avoid prolonged hot water exposure right after application, and if one starts to lift, gently add a tiny bit more glue and press it down. When it's time to remove them, please don't just rip them off! Soak your nails in warm, soapy water with a bit of oil for about 10-15 minutes. This helps loosen the glue, and you can then gently pry them off with an orange wood stick. This way, you protect your natural nails and can even reuse some of your press-ons! DIY Amazon press-ons are truly a budget-friendly and nail-friendly alternative to salon visits. With a little practice and the right products, you can achieve stunning manicures right in your own home.
