I personally love how this recipe uses softened dairy free cream cheese combined with cinnamon, brown sugar, and maple syrup to create a creamy, rich coating for the bread. Using gluten free bread ends is a great way to reduce waste and add extra texture.
One tip I’ve found helpful is to choose high-quality vegan butter for pan frying to get that crispy golden crust without compromising on flavor. For the berry topping, using frozen berries works just as well as fresh ones and gives you a naturally sweet, syrupy sauce as they cook down with a bit of sugar. This method saves time and adds vibrant color to the dish.
You can also customize with different berry blends based on seasonal availability or your preferred sweetness level. Adding a pinch of cinnamon enhances the warm flavors and complements the maple syrup perfectly. This recipe is ideal not only for vegans or those avoiding gluten and dairy but also for anyone wanting a tasty and wholesome breakfast option.
Experimenting with various dairy free cream cheeses or even nut-based spreads can provide subtle flavor differences to suit your tastes. This dish pairs wonderfully with fresh fruit or a dusting of powdered sugar for an extra special touch. Overall, preparing this gluten free, dairy free French toast has become a favorite weekend treat that’s satisfying, nutritious, and easy to make.
