It’s cold + flu season again and my house smells like a witchy apothecary 🍋🫖
These Green Witch simmer pots aren’t just for the vibe - they actually help.
Even if you’re not drinking it, simmering herbs like rosemary, lemon, cinnamon and clove releases their natural oils + plant compounds into the steam. Breathing that in can soothe congestion, purify the air and bring gentle relief - like this cozy, all-natural vapor rub but for your home 🌿
Energetically, that same steam carries your intention through the room - clearing stagnant energy and infusing warmth, comfort and protection into your space. It’s a mix of science + spellwork: the herbs heal the air and your words heal the energy ✨
So while you’re not ingesting this, you are breathing in its medicine - physically and spiritually. Let it simmer as you rest, and let the steam do the work (and the magic) for you 🌬️💛
... Read moreHey everyone! As someone who often leans into natural remedies, these green witch simmer pots have been an absolute game-changer for me during cold and flu season. I used to just rely on diffusers, but there's something so incredibly comforting and effective about a gentle simmer on the stove filling your home with healing aromas. It's like a warm hug for your respiratory system!
Making these brews is super simple. All you need is a pot (I usually use a small saucepan or even a slow cooker on low), water, and your chosen ingredients. Just fill the pot about halfway or two-thirds with water, add your goodies, and let it gently simmer on low heat. Remember to keep an eye on the water level and top it up as needed, especially if you're simmering for several hours. This prevents the pot from drying out and keeps those wonderful aromas flowing.
I've experimented with a few combinations, and the ones mentioned in my earlier post, inspired by the 'Healing Brew,' 'Protection Brew,' and 'Comfort Brew,' are truly my favorites.
The Healing Brew: This one is my go-to when I feel a tickle in my throat or a bit of congestion coming on. I love combining lemon slices (about half a lemon, sliced), a few sprigs of fresh rosemary (or a tablespoon dried), a couple of cinnamon sticks, a handful of whole cloves, and a few strips of orange peel. Lemon and orange are fantastic for their cleansing properties and uplifting scent, while rosemary is known for respiratory support. Cinnamon and clove add warmth and have antimicrobial benefits. The scent instantly makes my airways feel clearer, and it just smells so wonderfully fresh and clean.
The Protection Brew: When I want to cleanse the energy in my home and feel a stronger sense of well-being, I turn to the 'Protection Brew.' For this, I gather about 3-4 bay leaves, a teaspoon of whole cloves, a small bunch of fresh sage (or a tablespoon dried), a few sprigs of rosemary, and about a teaspoon of whole black peppercorns. Sage is incredible for purifying, and bay leaves are traditionally associated with protection. The peppery notes add a grounding element. This blend creates a really strong, clearing aroma that helps me feel more secure and calm, especially when there's a bug going around.
The Comfort Brew: This blend is pure coziness in a pot, perfect for those days when you just need to feel nurtured and warm. I like to use slices from one apple, a few thin slices of fresh ginger, a generous spoonful of honey, a dash of vanilla extract (or a vanilla bean pod), and a pinch of ground nutmeg. The apple and ginger are so soothing, and the honey and vanilla add a sweet, comforting aroma that reminds me of baking. It's like a warm embrace for your entire home and just makes everything feel a little bit brighter.
I usually let these simmer for 3-4 hours, or even longer if I'm home all day, just making sure to add more water. It’s amazing how much of a difference these simple additions can make to the atmosphere and my own well-being during those challenging seasons. Give them a try – I promise your home (and your nose!) will thank you!
