Miracle Cold & Flu At Home Remedy
Super sweet and easy to take even for kids - without the over the counter ingredient gunk! To make your own holistic 4 ingredient cold and flu remedy at home that packs a punch 💥 to knock out sickness in its tracks 🤒⬇️
• 1 large red onion
• 1 medium white onion
• 2 large heads of fresh garlic
• 1 1/2 lbs of raw organic honey
• large glass jar with a tight lid
• small mesh strainer (I like to use a mini flour sifter for easy transport in & out without causing spills!)
Step One) chop both red and white onions into thick slices - this is an important step that helps avoid leaving anything behind once it’s time to strain!
Step Two) peel and cut ends of fresh garlic cloves, dispose of the ends, then slice cloves in half
Step Three) layer onions and garlic into your clean glass jar
Step Four) slowly pour honey into your glass jar, giving it time to saturate between pours so it evenly fills to prevent large air pockets
Step Five) leaving 1” headspace at the top, leave your miracle mixture jar open on the counter for one hour to let it breathe
Step Six) wipe and clean rim of jar and it’s lid, then hand seal tightly
• Keep the jar on your countertop away from heat and sunlight for 4-5 days. During this time, you’ll need to give the jar a gentle shake twice a day, flipping the jar to rest on the lid afterwards for about an hour. You’ll see bubbles inside of your jar from the onion releasing water - that is a good thing!
• After it’s rested upside down, flip it right side up and let contents settle back to the bottom. Open the jar and let it breathe for 1-2 hours to release gasses onions have released into your honey mixture.
• On day 4, if your contents have created a very thin liquid, this is when you’ll strain. If it’s still a little thick, give it one more day before straining. Straining into a large measuring cup will help make transporting out of and back into the glass jar much easier & mess free.
When straining it’s important to make sure no pieces of onion or garlic get left behind. You want liquid only to be left as to avoid mold and botulism from occurring. You can also set aside your saturated onions and garlic to cook with! We love to use ours over baked chicken in the oven, yummy!
• Pour just your liquid back into your glass jar and make sure the lid is on hand tight. Date your jar, then store in a cool dry place out of sunlight for up to 6 months.

Wishing your family a safe and sickness-free holiday season! 🎄❤️

Okay, so you've made your amazing homemade cold & flu syrup, and now you're probably wondering how to get the most out of it, especially for your little ones! I know firsthand how stressful it is when kids bring those school germs home. This recipe truly feels like a miracle in a jar, and I've learned a few things that really help make it even more effective and offer a sense of control during those sniffle-filled days. First off, let's talk about why this simple blend of onions, garlic, and honey works so well. Honey is a natural cough suppressant and soothes sore throats, which is a lifesaver for kids. Garlic and onions are packed with compounds known for their immune-boosting and antimicrobial properties. Many traditional remedies have used these ingredients for centuries, long before modern medicine. It's truly incredible what nature provides! This potent syrup is a testament to the power of simple ingredients. When it comes to giving this potent concoction to your kids, consistency is key. For younger children (over one year old, due to honey), a teaspoon every few hours can work wonders at the first sign of symptoms. For older kids and adults, a tablespoon can be taken 3-4 times a day. If the taste is a bit strong for sensitive palates, don't worry! You can easily mix it into a small amount of warm water, a favorite juice, or even blend it into a smoothie. My trick is to call it "superhero juice" – anything to make it fun and encourage them to take it! Beyond the syrup itself, remember that holistic care is crucial for helping your family recover fast. Ensure everyone is getting plenty of rest. Sleep is when our bodies do their best healing. Hydration is another huge factor; offer water, herbal teas, or clear broths frequently. A humidifier in their room can also make a big difference in easing congestion and coughs, especially at night. Warm baths with a few drops of eucalyptus essential oil (if appropriate for their age) can also provide comfort and help clear airways. Don't underestimate the power of simply being present and comforting your child, too. This homemade flu mixture is a fantastic first line of defense, reducing reliance on over-the-counter options that might have unwanted side effects. It’s a natural, easy way to support your family's immune system. Remember to store your finished syrup in a cool, dark place, and it should last for up to 6 months, so you'll always have this powerful remedy on hand for whatever those school germs throw your way! It's such a relief to have a natural option that's effective and safe, helping my kids bounce back faster. Give it a try – you might just feel like a miracle worker yourself!
