FIRST JOURNAL SETUP 🍋

when i was a kid, i used to journal constantly. i had this red notebook i’d pass between classes with my best friend and we’d use it for everything from writing short stories to talking about our days to drawing paper versions of memes (it was 2012 😭).

ever since then though, with unmedicated adhd and overexhausting myself, i haven’t really journaled since. i wanted to, and sometimes i’d make documents or download apps or try to force myself to journal in one, but it never lasted longer than a week. now that i have this cute lemon8 journal i’m going to try to actually keep myself using it by setting it up in a way i like and not making it too exhausting or a chore to fill out!!!

pages so far:

1. intro page!! i just needed something to title the journal, a picture of me currently, and my start and finish dates!! of course i put my little lemo in the polaroid because i won him from the same contest as the diary!!

2. sticker page! i collect stickers with the intent to use them for scrapbooking or journaling, so now i finally have a place to put them!! some of the stickers i put on here are: a lot of stickers i got in the outer banks when i went on vacation there a month ago, strawberry and bunny stickers from temu, some stickers i got from when i worked at starbucks, some equality and women’s empowerment stickers, and a sticker from the starbucks worker’s union that i got from when i met some of them in seattle!

3. a “meet the artist” page for myself. i want to make one of these each time i start a new journal or scrapbook so i can see a future evolution in myself!! i included things like my age, favorite things, stickers that represent me, and a doodle of me in one of my favorite outfits!

4. table of contents! this makes it easier to find specific pages or look for things im writing about in it, like if i’m looking for a specific calender to add to or looking for an idea i have written down on a specific page :)

5. september intro page! i plan to separate this diary by months and do a little monthly recap and playlist at the end of each month, so these pages are like separators!! i think this is a good idea because it’ll help me keep track of how many pages i make in a month or what i do during that month.

6. september calender! i have a physical calender on my wall that i share with my partner as well as the calender in my phone, but this can help me keep track of things coming up and since i plan to carry this diary in my tote bag every day, i can add to it quickly if something comes up or if i make plans with my friends!!

7. first journal entry! like i said, i haven’t written this yet, but i plan to talk about the purpose of this journal as well as what i’m up to at this stage of my life and how things are going for me :)

... Read moreHey everyone! Just like many of you, I've had a love-hate relationship with journaling. I used to start with so much enthusiasm, only to abandon my notebooks after a week or two. It felt like a chore, and I'd get overwhelmed trying to make it 'perfect.' But I've learned that journaling doesn't have to be a masterpiece; it just needs to be *yours*. If you're looking for ideas on what to fill your pages with, or fun things to do in your journal, I've got some tips that have helped me keep my Lemon8 diary alive and thriving! First off, let's talk about what to write. Sometimes the blank page is the most intimidating part. Here are some of my go-to prompts and ideas: Daily Brain Dump: This is a lifesaver! Just write whatever comes to mind – worries, to-do lists, random thoughts, things you need to remember. It's like clearing out your mental clutter. No need for structure, just let it flow. Gratitude Lists: Even on tough days, there's always something to be thankful for. Jot down 3-5 things, big or small. It shifts your perspective instantly. Goal Setting & Tracking: Dedicate a space to your dreams! Write down short-term goals (weekly intentions) and long-term aspirations. Break them down into smaller steps. You can track your progress with simple checkboxes or a habit tracker. This really makes your journal a tool for personal growth. Future Self Letters: Imagine yourself a year from now. What advice would you give? What do you hope to achieve? Writing a letter to your future self is a powerful way to reflect and plan. Monthly Recaps & Playlists: This is something I'm passionate about! At the end of each month, I love to summarize my highlights, challenges, and lessons learned. And, of course, create a 'soundtrack' of songs that defined that month. It's a fun way to capture memories. Dream Journaling: If you remember your dreams, jot them down as soon as you wake up. It’s fascinating to look back at them and see patterns or hidden messages. "Meet the Artist" Updates: Like the author mentioned, creating a "meet the artist" page each time you start a new journal is brilliant. You can update it with your current favorites, a doodle of your favorite outfit, or even a mood board reflecting your current vibe. It's a beautiful way to track your evolution. Beyond just writing, there are so many cool things to do in your diary to make it uniquely yours and a joy to open! Decorate with Stickers & Washi Tape: I'm a huge fan of collecting stickers, and finally having a dedicated space for them is amazing! Use all those random stickers you've accumulated, like the author's outer banks stickers or cute bunnies. Washi tape stickers are also fantastic for adding borders, dividing sections, or simply making a page pop. Don't save them for a 'special' occasion – use them now! Art Journaling & Doodles: You don't have to be an artist! Simple doodles, scribbles, or even abstract color splashes can be incredibly therapeutic. I love using different colored pens, or even a white paint pen, to add highlights or write over darker backgrounds. It adds so much personality. Memory Keeping: Turn your journal into a scrapbook of sorts. Tape in small photos, ticket stubs from a concert, pressed flowers, or even a receipt from a memorable meal. These little treasures will bring back so many memories when you flip through your journal later. Color-Coding & Highlighting: Use different colored pens or highlighters to categorize entries, mark important tasks, or emphasize key takeaways. It makes your journal much more visually appealing and organized. My biggest tip for anyone trying to get back into journaling is to keep it low-pressure. Don't aim for perfection. Your journal is a messy, beautiful space for your thoughts. There's no right or wrong way to do it. Just grab your notebook, a pen, and start. You might be surprised at how much joy and clarity it brings to your everyday life!
