Be that parent cheering from the sidelines

I don't know whose heart was beating faster mine or my son's during this race. Driving him to his race this morning my son told me his goal was to place better than last year. Last year he placed 53rd in this cross country race. This year his only goal was to beat that.

He came in 49th, and you would’ve thought he won the whole race with how proud he was (and how loud I was at the finish line. Yes that's my high pitched shrieking at the end of the video 😂). I'm incredibly proud of him and what he accomplished! In fact writing this I'm holding back proud mama bear tears.

Watching him run shows, progress doesn’t always look huge or dramatic. Sometimes it’s just showing up again, pushing a little harder, and being your own biggest cheerleader (or having one screaming crazily from the sidelines). Luckily he wasn't embarrassed by my loud cheering or 20 hugs I gave him today, he loved every moment of my support!
