How I got into Digital Marketing š«¶
If you asked Baby Megan where she thinks Older Megan would end up, she would probably tell you that Iām a famous singer. Well, Baby Megan, youāre definitely incorrect lol.
Iām a Digital Marketer! I love it so much I want to share with you all my experience getting to the point Iām at now in the field. š©š¼āš»
š I studied Public Relations and graduated with distinction in 2020 (yes, during the pandemic š„²) and returned to get a second diploma in Media Communications. But, I dropped out after one year because I got engaged and didnāt feel like learning anymore lol.
š¤ I worked odd jobs in the marketing field like helping my mom with her small businessās marketing, I also managed the social media for my part time job at Pita Pit, and I took on leadership roles at school in my projects.
š¼ I got my first big girl job at a restaurant supply store in town as their website/marketing assistant where I was responsible for SEO, website/product updates, and their social media/email newsletters. I worked my way up to being their Marketing Manager where I took on the entire department by myself, but left once I found my next opportunity.
š„° Iāve always wanted to work at an agency where I could experience many different businesses and really hone into one task instead of one business with many different tasks. So when I got a job doing just that, I took it and RAN. I started off as social media manager and copywriter, and worked my way up to Lead Content Creator where I am now!
Although I did all of that to get where I am, it doesnāt have to be like this!
Surely having a solid education and stable work experience helps on a resume, but if you think you have a good eye for this stuff then start small and work your way up! Whether you offer your services to a small business for free to gain the experience, take a free online course or two (shoutout Coursera), or really show your potential to learn at an entry level job, you can go far š
