I Joined The AODA
I’m officially joining the AODA (The Ancient Order of Druids in America) and beginning my candidacy year, and I wanted to take a moment to share what that actually means (at least, what I can share). The AODA is a revival druid order founded in 1912, rooted in the 18th–19th century Druid Revival movement and reimagined through a modern animist, ecological lens. It’s not a reconstructionist order, but rather one that draws inspiration from ancient Druidry while planting its roots in the present, focusing on direct connection to the land, the elements, the cycles of the Earth, and your own inner journey.
As a candidate, I’ll be walking the three foundational paths:
The Earth Path, which focuses on developing a deep spiritual relationship with the land where I live
The Sun Path, which teaches ritual, seasonal celebration, and energetic attunement through the Wheel of the Year
The Moon Path, which emphasizes personal transformation, meditation, journaling, and regular spiritual practice.
Each of these paths works together to form a grounded, evolving way of living in rhythm with the world around and within me.
I’ll be focusing my studies along the Druid path, which includes work in divination, trance, ritual creation, and spirit connection. It’s very much the magical and mystic thread of the order, rooted in visionary practice, subtle energy, and creative expression.
I’ll also be delving into Ovate topics like herbalism, nature observation, and meteorology, because those just feel like a natural extension of who I already am.
And yes, there are some pieces of the training I won’t be sharing publicly, not because they’re “secret” in a flashy way, but because some parts are private by design. And honestly? That just makes it feel more sacred. More special.

When I first started looking into a deeper spiritual path, I felt a strong pull towards something rooted in nature, something ancient yet relevant to my modern life. That's when I discovered the Ancient Order of Druids in America (AODA), and honestly, it felt like coming home. I know many of you might be curious about what joining an order like this truly means beyond the official descriptions, so I wanted to share a bit more about what I'm learning and experiencing on my candidacy journey. For me, the AODA isn't just about studying old texts; it's about actively engaging with the world around me. Take the Earth Path, for instance. It's not just about appreciating nature, but about forging a profound, almost conversational relationship with my local environment. I've started spending more time truly observing the plants, the birds, the subtle shifts in the seasons right in my backyard and local park. It’s about recognizing the spirit in every tree and stone, and understanding the unique energy of the land beneath my feet. This could involve learning local plantlore, identifying native species, or even finding a quiet spot to meditate and simply listen to the earth. The Sun Path has been equally transformative. Celebrating the Wheel of the Year isn't just about marking dates on a calendar; it's about weaving seasonal rhythms into my daily life. For example, during the Solstices or Equinoxes, I might create a simple ritual at home, perhaps lighting candles to honor the returning light or gathering fallen leaves to acknowledge the earth's bounty. It's a way to consciously attune my energy to the greater cosmic dance, making me feel more connected to the ancient cycles our ancestors observed. These aren't grand, elaborate ceremonies for me, but rather personal, heartfelt expressions of gratitude and connection. And then there's the Moon Path, which is all about inner growth. Journaling has become a powerful tool, helping me track my spiritual insights and personal transformations. Daily meditation practices, even just for a few minutes, help me center myself and develop a deeper awareness of my inner landscape. This path really emphasizes that the spiritual journey is as much about looking inward as it is about looking outward. It’s about building a consistent practice that supports my evolving self. Beyond these foundational paths, I'm excited to delve into the more 'magical' aspects. The Druid path's focus on divination and trance, for example, explores ways to access deeper wisdom, perhaps through Ogham readings or guided visionary journeys. On the Ovate side, my interest in herbalism means I'm learning to identify medicinal plants, understanding their properties, and perhaps even crafting simple remedies. Nature observation, including meteorology, isn't just a hobby; it’s a way to intimately understand the patterns and forces that shape our world. It's about seeing the magic in the intricate web of life, and finding practical ways to honor and work with it. This journey with the AODA feels incredibly holistic, blending practical knowledge with profound spiritual insight, and I can't wait to share more as I progress.
