When Parents Break Promises Too 👀❤️

Parents are quick to call kids out for breaking promises. But let’s be honest, adults do the same all the time 👀 “We’ll play later” that never happens. “Tomorrow we’ll go out” that turns into next week. Meanwhile, if a child forgets something small, suddenly it is a huge drama 😂

Promises should count both ways. Kids notice when we forget. They remember. And keeping our word builds the trust they need ❤️

... Read moreFrom my experience, when parents say "we'll play later" but it never happens, children notice and feel disappointed. It’s not just about the forgotten plans but about building trust and showing that their feelings and time matter. Kids often remember broken promises longer than adults expect, which can lead to feelings of sadness or being unimportant. I once promised my child to visit the park "tomorrow," but due to work, it got postponed to next week. The delay made my child express frustration, showing how these small moments hold big emotional weight. This taught me to be more mindful before making commitments and to communicate clearly if plans change. Interestingly, kids’ reactions can seem like "big drama," such as when they forget a water bottle and adults overreact. Yet, when parents break promises frequently, it sends a mixed message that promises only count when children keep them. Recognizing this helps improve parent-child relationships. In short, mutual respect in promises nurtures trust and emotional security. As parents, acknowledging our slips and apologizing honestly can strengthen bonds and model integrity for our kids.
