Crying Is Allowed

Many parents say “don’t cry” without meaning to dismiss their child.

The truth is, we panic. Seeing our kids sad makes us feel helpless, and we want the pain to stop immediately. But emotions do not need fixing. They need space.

Crying, talking, and taking time are all healthy ways for kids to process feelings. We are still learning how to sit with those emotions alongside them.

Parenting is not about perfect words. It is about showing care, even when we are learning.

Parents, how do you respond when your child cries?

... Read moreWhen I first became a parent, I often found myself saying, "Don’t cry," almost reflexively. It wasn’t that I wanted to dismiss my child's feelings; rather, I felt helpless seeing them in pain and desperately wanted to stop it. Over time, I realized that emotions aren’t something to be immediately fixed but something to be felt and understood. Crying is a natural and healthy way for children to process complex emotions, whether it's sadness, frustration, or fear. From personal experience, giving my child the space to cry instead of silencing their tears has strengthened our relationship. It helped my child feel safe expressing vulnerability while teaching them that emotions are none of the taboo or scary. Talking gently, offering a comforting presence, and simply being patient are much more effective than quick reassurances that dismiss feelings. Research shows that creating an environment where children feel their emotions are valid supports emotional resilience and development. Rather than panicking or rushing to fix their sadness, showing empathy and care—even without perfect words—lets children know they are understood and supported. This is the essence of gentle parenting and emotional development. For parents still learning, it’s important to remind ourselves: there is no perfection needed. What matters most is demonstrating care and willingness to sit with our children through their emotions, allowing them to develop healthy skills for emotional regulation. Next time your child cries, try to embrace the moment as an opportunity for connection and growth rather than something to immediately stop.

I don’t want my HDB anymore 🏠
For context, at that point in time, my honest thoughts were “I don’t want my house anymore, they can have it”. I’ve been cleaning this house repeatedly for a good 3 weeks. Whenever I’m free and on leave I head down to the house to sweep, vacuum, mop and wipe. It caught me by surprise when I s
