It satisfies their natural curiosity and innate hunting instincts, even if their 'prey' is just a dust bunny or a passing human foot. I’ve seen Rose Bud peek out from behind a cushion, ready to pounce on a toy, and it’s clear she feels more confident in her hidden perch.
