NO BUY 2025 ( All DIY this year)🍋🌸✨
Looking back over the years I realized how much money Ive spent on services that I could learn how to do myself. This past year and a half I’ve learned how to do my own hair, and I’m starting to learn my nails next! 🥰#nobuy2025 #lemon8challenge
Building on my journey to embrace a 'No Buy 2025' challenge, I wanted to dive a bit deeper into what this really means for me and how you can start your own! Like many of you, I looked back and realized how much money was simply disappearing on services and items I could manage myself. That's why I'm taking on a comprehensive 'no shopping challenge' this year, especially when it comes to personal care. My personal 'no buy list' is pretty clear: I’m cutting out all non-essential purchases, and a big one for me is beauty services. No more paying for expensive salon visits for my hair, and definitely no more quick fixes like store-bought 'press-ons' or regular 'nail services' at a salon. I've already made great strides in learning to do my own hair, and next up is mastering my at-home manicures and pedicures. This isn't just about saving money, though that's a huge bonus! It's about empowering myself with new skills and taking control of my 'personal care & up-keep' routines. For anyone considering their own 'no buy challenge,' here are some ideas and 'no spend challenge rules' I'm following or considering. First, define your 'why.' Is it to save for a big goal, reduce clutter, or simply become more mindful of your spending? For me, it's a mix of saving and a desire to be more self-sufficient. Next, create your personal 'no buy list.' Be specific! My list includes things like new clothes (unless absolutely essential, like replacing worn-out basics), unnecessary home decor, and all beauty services. What are your personal spending triggers? Identify those and make them part of your challenge. When it comes to 'no spend challenge rules,' I find it helpful to categorize. 'Needs' (groceries, rent, essential utilities, medical care) are generally allowed. 'Wants' (new gadgets, impulse buys, dining out frequently) are usually on the no-buy list. But there can be grey areas! For instance, I've set a rule to allow experiences over material goods if it's within a pre-determined budget and shared with loved ones. Another rule is to embrace DIY. Before buying something, ask: Can I make it? Can I fix what I already have? Can I borrow it? This 'no buy challenge' isn't about deprivation; it's about shifting my perspective. Instead of buying, I’m learning. Instead of consuming, I’m creating. If I need a new outfit for an event, I'll try to restyle what I have or swap with a friend. My goal for 'no buy 2025' is to cultivate a more intentional lifestyle. I encourage you to think about what areas of your spending you can tackle. Even starting with a 'no shopping challenge' for just one category, like beauty products or coffee shop runs, can make a huge difference. Let's inspire each other to embrace a more mindful and self-reliant year!
