I picked up this Kinders whiskey apple seasoning a while ago, and only used it once. But I decided I wanted cinnamon apple waffles and chicken for dinner, so it was only right to make this sauce for my chicken. This was the perfect balance between sweet & savory. An absolute must try.
So for the whiskey apple sauce I boiled the apples for about 6mins using 1/2cup water. I drained my apples and heated up 3/4 stick of butter. Then I added my apples in. On top I added 1tsp of brown sugar, 1/4cup sugar, 1/2tsp of cinnamon, and 1tsp of agave. I stirred everything together, let it simmer for about 3-4mins, and added a little cornstarch slurry for thickening. Turning the stove off to not let the sauce get too thick. Afterwards, I test-tasted and adjusted accordingly. I can’t handle too sweet foods so you may or may not have to do the same.
Anyways, this was some of the best chicken & waffles I’ve had/made. Kids approved, and we’re going to make this together soon for their brand.

... Read moreAfter trying my Caramel Whiskey Apple Chicken Tenders & Cinnamon Apple Waffles, I just had to share more about why this combination is pure magic! If you're searching for 'whiskey and waffles,' you're onto something truly special. It’s not just a meal; it’s an experience that tantalizes your taste buds with a perfect balance of flavors.
So many people ask me, 'What kind of whiskey should I use for cooking?' For dishes like my Caramel Whiskey Apple Chicken Tenders, especially those with sweeter notes, I usually lean towards a good bourbon or a sweeter rye. The smooth caramel and vanilla undertones in bourbon truly enhance the apple and cinnamon flavors. Think about how those flavors developed in the barrel – it's like they were made for desserts! I’ve even experimented with a smoky Scotch in a savory whiskey sauce, but for this kind of sweet and savory delight, a fruitier, more mellow profile is key. You don’t want anything too harsh; the whiskey should complement, not overpower, the delicate flavors of your waffles and chicken.
While my Cinnamon Apple Waffles, drizzled with that lovely caramel and sprinkled with powdered sugar, are a dream, don't stop there! The beauty of waffles is their versatility. Imagine classic buttermilk waffles with a homemade whiskey-infused maple syrup, or even banana nut waffles with a spiced whiskey glaze. You could even try a more adventurous route: a savory cheddar and chive waffle, then top it with a rich, smoky chunky apple caramel sauce made with a spicier rye whiskey for something truly unexpected. The key is to consider how the whiskey's profile will interact with your waffle base.
Beyond infusing your Caramel Whiskey Apple Chicken Tenders with flavor, whiskey can elevate so many other elements of your meal. I sometimes make a simple whiskey caramel sauce to drizzle over ice cream or even add a splash to my morning coffee for an extra treat. Or, for a truly adult twist, a splash of whiskey in your freshly whipped cream can be divine! Remember, the alcohol cooks off during the cooking process, leaving behind those wonderful nuanced flavors. It’s all about adding depth and warmth to your dish, making it feel extra special and sophisticated.
My biggest tip for anyone trying to incorporate whiskey into their cooking? Don't be afraid to experiment! Start with a small amount of whiskey and taste as you go. You can always add more to reach your desired intensity, but you can't take it out. Also, when reducing whiskey in a sauce, make sure to do it slowly to allow the flavors to mellow and concentrate. And for that perfect chunky apple caramel sauce, like the one that coats my delicious Caramel Whiskey Apple Chicken Tenders, don't rush the simmering process; that’s where all the magic happens. The texture should be just right – not too thin, not too thick, clinging beautifully to your chicken and waffles. This unique take on chicken and waffles isn't just a meal; it's an experience. The way the chunky apple caramel sauce coats the Caramel Whiskey Apple Chicken Tenders and the Cinnamon Apple Waffles soak up every bit of that sweet, spiced goodness, topped off with extra caramel and powdered sugar – it really is a symphony of flavors. Give it a try, and let me know your favorite whiskey and waffle combination!
