... Read moreHey everyone! So, we've all seen those 'social media red flags' that can really hold back our content, right? I know I certainly learned the hard way when I first started out. It's not just about avoiding mistakes; it's about building a strategy that truly resonates and gets you noticed. Let me share a bit more on how I tackled these common pitfalls and what I've found really works for genuinely connecting with your audience. First up, poor quality content. This was a huge one for me! I used to just snap a quick photo and post it, thinking quantity was key. But I quickly realized that blurry images, bad lighting, or unedited videos just don't grab attention. My advice? Invest a little time. You don't need fancy gear; your phone camera is powerful! Focus on good natural light, a clean background, and use free editing apps like Snapseed or Canva to brighten, crop, and add a pop of color. For text, always proofread! A typo can instantly make your content look less professional. Remember, your visuals are often the first impression, so make them count. Then there's not posting consistently. Oh, the struggle was real! I'd have bursts of inspiration, post for a week straight, and then disappear for a month. The algorithms don't love that, and neither does your audience. They want to know they can count on you. What helped me was creating a simple content calendar. Even if it's just planning out three posts a week, knowing what I'm going to share takes away the guesswork. Batching content has been a game-changer too – dedicating a few hours to create several pieces of content at once. It saves so much time in the long run! Next, not having a clear call to action (CTA). This was a missed opportunity for me for ages! I'd post something great but then leave my audience hanging. What did I want them to do next? 'Like if you agree!' 'Comment your thoughts below!' 'Click the link in bio for more!' These aren't pushy; they guide your audience and encourage interaction. If you want people to visit your website or sign up for something, tell them! Don't assume they'll know. A strong CTA helps you build a community and move people along their journey with you. And let's talk about not having clear branding. When I first started, my feed was a mishmash of colors and fonts. It looked disjointed. Developing a consistent brand aesthetic and voice was crucial. Think about your brand colors, your fonts, and the overall 'vibe' you want to give off. Are you funny? Informative? Inspiring? Once you define it, stick to it. This consistency builds recognition and trust, so when people see your content, they instantly know it's *you*. My goal was always to be instantly recognizable, and having a consistent visual and verbal identity really made that happen. Finally, the big one: not listening to your audience and not finding your audience. This is probably the most important 'red flag' to address. I used to post what I thought was interesting, but then I'd look at my analytics and realize it wasn't what my audience wanted at all. Pay attention to your comments, DMs, and what kind of content gets the most saves or shares. Ask questions! Run polls! This feedback is invaluable. And if you're struggling to find your audience, think about who your ideal follower is. What are their interests? What hashtags do they use? Where do they hang out online? By understanding who you're talking to, you can tailor your content to truly serve them, building a loyal and engaged community. Avoiding these social media red flags isn't just about growth; it's about building genuine connections and making your online presence truly meaningful!

Job searching? These are my red flags… 🚩
Over the years I’ve seen a lot of things in job postings I don’t love, many of which have now become red flags for me. And usually I won’t even apply if I see any of these! For me, I want to apply to (& work for) companies that value me and don’t want to get the most bang for their buck.
