Forgiveness doesn’t mean access 🛑

4/20 Edited to

... Read moreForgiveness is often misunderstood as a full reconciliation or invitation to reopen all doors to the person who hurt us. However, forgiveness primarily benefits the forgiver by freeing them from the burden of resentment and anger. It doesn't automatically mean you must allow the other person unrestricted access to your life. In my personal experience, learning to forgive someone who caused pain was a turning point. While I chose to let go of the hurt for my own peace, I realized that maintaining healthy boundaries was crucial. It meant I could forgive without sacrificing my emotional safety or reopening wounds by engaging too closely with that person again. Setting boundaries after forgiveness can involve limiting contact, protecting your emotional space, or clearly communicating what behaviors are acceptable moving forward. This practice helps foster respectful relationships and prevents repeated harm. Forgiveness plus boundaries creates a balanced approach—letting go of bitterness while safeguarding your well-being. Many people struggle to separate the two concepts, feeling pressured to completely trust or reconnect with someone once forgiveness is given. But it’s perfectly valid to forgive and simultaneously control how much of the forgiven person’s presence you allow in your life. In fact, this balance often leads to healing and empowerment rather than confusion or emotional relapse. Ultimately, forgiveness is a journey tailored to each individual. It’s wise to reflect on what you need for your own growth and safety rather than follow others’ expectations. Remember, forgiving someone doesn’t erase your right to choose how and when that person is involved in your life.

Healing doesn’t always require forgiveness.
Sometimes healing looks like choosing peace over closure. Sometimes it looks like accepting the apology you’ll never receive. Sometimes it looks like loving yourself enough to walk away. You can forgive someone and still decide they no longer have access to your life. Protect your peace
