My author brain really is a bit chaotic, as my original post confessed! It's a constant swirl of characters, plot twists, and entirely new worlds demanding attention. You might wonder, what exactly drives an author, or how do we craft those unforgettable hero journeys? For me, it's a fascinating blend of intuition, passion, and a dash of delightful madness. When we talk about 'authorial intent,' it sounds very academic, doesn't it? But truly, for someone like me, it's about the core feeling or question I want to explore with each story. Sometimes, it begins with a burning desire to delve into a specific emotional landscape. For instance, with the 'Military second chance romance' I'm developing, my intent is to explore themes of redemption, healing, and the enduring power of love against a backdrop of past trauma. I want readers to feel that poignant hope and the strength it takes to rebuild. Then, there's the 'Dark rom-com' – here, the intent is pure escapism, a cheeky blend of humor and suspense, designed to make you laugh out loud while still gripping your heart. Each genre, from 'Paranormal Romantasy' to 'Contemporary Romance,' carries its own unique purpose, its own specific flavor I aim to deliver. It's about figuring out what kind of journey I want to take my readers on, and what emotions I want to stir along the way. Then there are the 'journeys of literary heroes' – a topic close to every writer's heart! Crafting these arcs is often where the "characters screaming at me" really comes into play. Each protagonist, whether they're battling supernatural forces in the 'Devil Dogs of the Apocalypse series' or navigating the complexities of modern love in a 'Contemporary Romance,' needs a distinct path. I don't set out to compare them directly in my own work, but rather to ensure each journey feels authentic and impactful within its own universe. Think about the contrast: the heroes in a 'Military second chance romance' might face internal battles, overcoming past regrets and learning to trust again, their journey focused on emotional rebuilding. Meanwhile, in a 'Dark Holiday Romance,' the hero's journey might be about confronting darker aspects of themselves or society, finding light in unexpected places, and perhaps even a twisted kind of festive cheer! The challenges they face, the growth they achieve, and the lessons they learn are all tailored to their specific world and the overarching intent of that story. For me, it's about making sure that even if I'm juggling multiple projects, each hero's evolution is meaningful and leaves a lasting impression. It’s a constant dance between inspiration and discipline. One moment, I’m brainstorming an epic quest for a fantastical realm, the next I’m fine-tuning the witty banter for a contemporary setting. This 'chaotic' process is actually how I ensure each story gets its own unique voice and emotional weight. It’s never boring, that’s for sure! It's truly a labor of love, bringing these diverse worlds and their unforgettable inhabitants to life. What about you? What kind of hero journeys do you find most compelling, or what themes in stories really resonate with you? I'd love to hear about the kinds of books that truly capture your imagination!
