A few things no one talks aboutšŸ¤

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
šŸ¤being a nail tech means you are your own marketing team. You are in charge of bringing in your own clientele, making your own prices, setting your own hours, creating policies, managing accounts, taking and keeping up with inventory, and so much more.
šŸ¤One of the biggest challenges of having your own business, is having to be your own customer support . While I absolutely love meeting new people and working with every single client, some days can be harder than others, and some situations are more challenging. One of the hardest things to remember is that everyone is going through their own situation and we don’t really know how they’re feeling or how they are dealing regardless of how much we talk at our session. I will always give someone the benefit of the doubt at first and do everything I can to try to come up with a solution.
šŸ¤Knowing when to say goodbye can be very challenging. Gaining new clients is hard enough. Why would we wanna say goodbye to one of our current ones? Sometimes there are some very tricky situations, like artist and client, not seeing eye to eye, frequent late arrivals, frequent, no-shows, frequent rescheduling, and sometimes flat out rudeness. Knowing when it’s time to say goodbye to a client can help save your business in the long run.
šŸ¤I knew that starting my own business meant I would have to do some sort of marketing , but I was nowhere near prepared for the amount of time and effort that I was going to need to use to be successful on my social media platforms. I spend a few hours each day outside of the time that I spend creating product, creating reels posts and content for you all to see and enjoy. Sometimes it can be hard to tell what’s gonna hit and I’m just posting as an experiment.
šŸ”„Questions | What kind of content would you guys like to see more of? What is something you wish more nail techs knew?
... Read moreIt's true, as a nail tech, there are so many things no one tells you about before you become a nail tech! Beyond the creative joy of crafting beautiful nails, the business side can be a real rollercoaster. My journey has taught me that really understanding and tackling these challenges head-on is exactly what paves the way to not just surviving, but truly thriving and achieving that sense of financial freedom, along with a loyal client base. Let’s dig a bit deeper into how we can turn those struggles into strengths. When it comes to marketing yourself, it’s not just about posting pretty nail pictures anymore. Think about creating compelling content that showcases your personality and expertise. Short video tutorials, behind-the-scenes glimpses, or even 'day in the life' posts can help potential clients connect with you on a deeper level. I've found that consistency is key, even when it feels like your efforts aren't immediately 'hitting'. Building a strong brand identity helps you stand out in a crowded market, making clients more likely to choose you over a competitor and, more importantly, stay with you. And that loyalty? It's not just given; it's earned. Beyond doing amazing nails, it's about the entire client experience. Remember how the article mentioned customer support? That's where you truly shine. Prompt responses, a welcoming atmosphere, and making clients feel heard and valued are priceless. I've learned that even when situations are challenging, a calm and professional approach can turn a potentially negative experience into a positive one, reinforcing their trust in you. Sometimes, giving someone the benefit of the doubt, as mentioned, can really strengthen that bond. Regarding financial freedom, it's a gradual process but totally achievable. It starts with setting clear pricing that reflects your skill, time, and overheads. Don’t undersell yourself! Many new nail techs struggle with this, but valuing your work is the first step towards financial stability. Then, it's about smart money management: tracking expenses, setting aside funds for taxes, and reinvesting in your business (like new tools or advanced training). Over time, as your client base becomes more loyal and your reputation grows, you'll find yourself in a much more financially secure position. That's when you truly feel the reward of your hard work – when your clients are not just coming for the nails, but for *you*, and your business is sustainably supporting your life. Finally, remember that tough decisions, like knowing when to say goodbye to a challenging client, are actually acts of self-preservation for your business. It protects your energy and your time, allowing you to focus on clients who truly value your work and contribute positively to your business. This, in turn, fosters a better environment for everyone and is crucial for long-term growth and, yes, that coveted financial freedom. It all circles back to building a sustainable, enjoyable career.
