I’m in Japan and this is day 9! 🏯 It was our second day in Kyoto, and we headed to the famed Nijo Castle. As a true princess, this place did not disappoint! We had some ice cream at the tea house on the grounds, explored a hidden Buddhist temple in the middle of the city, and ate the best noodles OF MY LIFE! Come back for day 10! 🇯🇵
My trip to Kyoto was filled with so many incredible moments, and Day 9 really stood out! If you're planning your own adventure to this historic city, you absolutely must add Nijo Castle to your itinerary. Walking through its expansive grounds, I was completely captivated by the grandeur. It’s not just a castle; it’s a journey back in time, showcasing the power of the Tokugawa shogunate. While filming inside isn't allowed, the exterior and the gardens are breathtaking. Make sure to look out for the famous 'nightingale floors' inside the Ninomaru Palace – they squeak to alert residents of intruders! I spent a good two to three hours just exploring, and it felt like every corner had a story. The vast moat, teeming with colorful koi, was a tranquil sight, offering a moment of calm reflection. After all that exploration, a stop at the tea house within the castle grounds was a perfect respite, especially since it was really hot that day! Sipping on a refreshing drink and enjoying some ice cream was exactly what I needed. Don't forget to check out the gift shop; I picked up some lovely handmade goodies as souvenirs. These little finds are always a great way to remember your travels! One of the most magical parts of the day was stumbling upon a hidden Buddhist temple. It’s incredible how these serene sanctuaries can be tucked away in the middle of a bustling city like Kyoto. My tip for finding your own hidden gems? Wander! Sometimes the best discoveries are made when you let curiosity lead the way down a narrow alley or across a majestic bridge you wouldn't typically notice. These off-the-beaten-path spots often offer a profound sense of peace and a glimpse into local life away from the main tourist crowds. And let’s talk about the food! After a day of exploring, I worked up an appetite. That evening, I discovered a small eatery serving what I can only describe as the best noodles of my life – specifically, a delicious bowl of beef noodles (牛肉麺) with fresh chili noodles. The rich broth and perfectly cooked noodles were an absolute dream. Kyoto is a culinary paradise, and while ramen gets a lot of hype, don't overlook udon, soba, and local specialties like yuba (tofu skin) and kaiseki (traditional multi-course dinner). For a more casual experience, try some street food near Nishiki Market. Remember to explore different types of noodles – from the savory beef noodles to spicy fresh chili noodles, Kyoto has it all! If you're feeling adventurous, you might even consider trying a 'casual geisha look' experience for some unique photos. Kyoto offers a blend of historical grandeur, hidden spiritual retreats, and unforgettable culinary delights, making every day an adventure.
