I dragged myself out of bed at 6am for a 7:30am Pilates class. Sore. Stiff. Fully negotiating with myself. And still needing even more modifications than last time. But I went, with my girls @chloelaverson and @Taylor Toro , who somehow make early mornings feel less cruel. And honestly? I liked this class even more.

Yes, I am officially obsessed. I’ve already bought the outfits, the socks, the loops. Pilates girlies, you get it. Movement feels good, showing up feels empowering, and building a healthy habit feels exciting in a way I haven’t felt in a long time.

But here’s the honest part: I’m noticing a pattern. When I love something, I tend to go all in. And while Pilates is a beautiful, healthy habit, I don’t want it to quietly replace other goals and dreams I’ve been working toward. So this episode is about balance. Letting something be good without letting it become everything. Moving my body AND moving my life forward. Main Character Maintenance isn’t about perfection, it’s about awareness, intention, and choosing growth in more than one direction. Let’s see if I can strike that balance…

... Read moreStarting a Pilates routine early in the morning can be challenging, especially when your body feels sore and stiff. I’ve experienced this firsthand, negotiating with myself to keep going despite discomfort. What truly helps is having workout buddies who bring positivity and make early mornings more bearable. Their encouragement transforms those painful starts into something enjoyable. I found myself quickly becoming obsessed with Pilates—not just the exercise itself but the whole lifestyle that comes with it. Buying the right outfits, socks, and resistance loops created a sense of belonging and commitment to the journey. It turns out that movement feels amazing when you show up consistently; it’s empowering and sparks excitement about building a healthy habit that lasts. However, I recognized that diving fully into one passion, like Pilates, can unintentionally overshadow other dreams and objectives. Balance is essential. It’s about allowing a new habit to enrich your life without making it the sole focus. For me, this meant practicing "Main Character Maintenance"—a concept about self-awareness, intentionality, and fostering growth in multiple directions. Incorporating Pilates doesn’t have to replace other goals; instead, it can complement them. For example, consider setting small but meaningful intentions each week for work, personal projects, and wellness. This approach prevents burnout and keeps your motivation balanced across all areas of life. From a practical standpoint, I learned to listen to my body and accept modifications when needed, making the practice sustainable. This allowed me to return to Pilates regularly without feeling discouraged by limitations. Achieving this balance also means valuing progress over perfection. Growth is not linear, and being kind to yourself on tougher days encourages long-term success. Pilates became a metaphor for life: strengthening the core while stretching toward ambitions. To anyone embarking on a similar path, I recommend embracing the process with intention, building community support, and celebrating small wins. Let your new habits enhance your overall journey, not replace it. This mindset transforms consistent exercise and self-care into a powerful, lifelong practice.
