part one of trying to recreate a Werner Bronkhorst painting to lower screen time and add colour to my apartment 🧑‍🎨🤸

Knowing his style often features dynamic wave forms and textured surfaces, I bought a large 48-inch canvas and gathered quality paint supplies—investing over $300 to truly commit to the project. One of the key techniques I explored was using Drydex, which helped me create textured wave shapes on the canvas. Applying multiple thin layers allowed me to gradually build depth. Using the pressure from my palette knife, I sculpted the material into diagonal, flowing wave patterns, carefully curving each stroke to mimic natural water movement. It was fascinating to witness the canvas transform from a blank surface into a lively ocean scene. Although my expectations were modest, embracing this hands-on process was incredibly rewarding. It required patience and trial and error, especially waiting for the Drydex to set just right before adding layers. I look forward to painting over the textured base with blues and subtle hues to capture Bronkhorst’s distinctive palette. For anyone looking to lower their screen time and explore painting, I recommend starting with an idea you admire and experimenting with texture mediums. The tactile experience can be quite meditative, and the personal satisfaction from creating something unique is well worth it. Stay tuned for updates as I bring this project to completion and share tips learned along the way!
