Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) is often misunderstood, yet it profoundly impacts the lives of those who experience it. Each alter within a system may have distinct identities and characteristics, presenting unique challenges and strengths. The prismatic cube in our skit serves as a powerful metaphor, reflecting the complex nature of our daily experiences and emotions as a collective of 60+ alters. Understanding DID involves recognizing the diversity within the system, including coping mechanisms and trauma responses. Many individuals with DID utilize creative outlets such as art, writing, and performance to express their experiences and navigate their identity. Engaging with these forms of expression not only provides an emotional release but also promotes awareness and understanding in the broader community. Mental health advocacy, especially among Indigenous populations, highlights the importance of culturally informed care. The intersection of mental health and cultural identity is crucial for healing, as it acknowledges the unique narratives and struggles faced by Indigenous individuals with mental health conditions. Through this creative journey, we hope to destigmatize DID and foster a supportive environment for discussions surrounding mental health, offering insights into the intricate realities faced by those living with this disorder.
