From anxious attachment style to secure attachment

3/16 Edited to

... Read moreMaking the journey from an anxious attachment style to a secure one truly requires patience and self-awareness. In my experience, one of the most significant turning points was learning to stop chasing after people who displayed avoidant behaviors. This realization helped me redirect my energy on building my own emotional resilience. Another vital practice was learning to self-soothe rather than reacting impulsively to emotional triggers. Techniques such as mindfulness, journaling, and deep breathing helped me gain control over my emotional responses. This was challenging at first, but over time it became a natural way to manage anxiety. Grounding myself in a stable self-identity also made a huge difference. For me, that meant fostering a relationship with my faith, which provided a foundation of worthiness separate from external validation. This shift helped reduce the tendency to overthink and assume the worst in relationships. Finally, embracing open and honest conversations was crucial. Instead of avoiding difficult topics or overanalyzing my partner’s behavior, I practiced clear and compassionate communication. It didn’t resolve everything overnight, but it paved the way for mutual understanding and trust. If you find yourself struggling with any of these steps, remember that transformation is gradual and requires kindness towards yourself. Sharing your challenges, whether in comments or with a supportive community, can also provide encouragement and accountability on this path.

“I stopped letting my emotions dictate how I react and learned to self-soothe”. 🤯🤯🤯 That is truly an amazing thing to say. I don’t know if I ever learned that in all of my years of learning about emotional sobriety. I’m going pray about that and seek more information on how to do it!!! Thank you, Sister in Christ 🙏✝️
