Why Did They Leave This in the 90s

2/27 Edited to

... Read moreOh my goodness, who else gets a massive wave of nostalgia when they think about the good old 90s? For me, it's all about those quirky, tactile toys that filled our childhoods. Seriously, I was just rummaging through some old boxes the other day, and you won't believe what I found – a classic 90s squishy! It brought back so many memories, I just had to share. Remember how simple yet utterly captivating those squishies were? Before all the fancy, scented, slow-rise squishies we see today, there was a unique charm to the ones we had in the 90s. They weren't always perfectly uniform; sometimes they were a bit lumpy, made of a different kind of foam or even gel-filled, but they were *ours*. We’d spend hours just squishing them, twisting them, and sometimes, let's be honest, trying to see how much abuse they could take before they burst! (Definitely not recommending that now, haha!) One of the coolest things about 90s squishies, especially for creative kids like me, was the rise of the DIY paper squishy trend. Did you ever make those? I spent countless afternoons with tape, scissors, and markers, drawing my favorite characters or foods, then stuffing them with cotton or plastic bags to create my very own custom squishy. It was such a fun way to express creativity and ended up with a unique toy that no one else had. It wasn't just about collecting; it was about making something tangible and squishy! If you were a true squishy maker back then, you know exactly what I mean. Finding that old squishy made me wonder, DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS IS? It’s a real challenge sometimes to identify these vintage toys because there were so many varieties and often they weren't branded like today's collectibles. But that's part of the fun, right? It's like a little treasure hunt for your memory! These toys weren't just about stress relief; they were about sensory play, collecting, and sharing with friends. They were a simple pleasure in a world that was just starting to get complicated with early tech. Now, with all the amazing tutorials available, it's even easier to relive those paper squishy making days or discover new types of squishies. But nothing quite beats the feeling of holding a piece of your childhood in your hand, a squishy that has stood the test of time and still brings a smile to your face. Let me know in the comments – what was your absolute favorite 90s squishy or retro toy? I'd love to hear your throwback stories!
