Becoming a better me 🙏🏾
Small confession, but a big one for me.
Since I was a kid, I was conditioned to view attraction through lust. At 33, I’m actively trying to break that mindset. It isn’t easy when something has felt normal your whole life.
I’ve realized that giving in to every temptation doesn’t lead to freedom… it often leads to loss, whether in relationships, family, or personal growth.
I’m not perfect, but I’m working every day to see people with more respect and self-control.
Here’s to becoming better than we were yesterday. 🙏🏾
Reflecting on personal growth, I’ve found that changing deep-seated beliefs around attraction isn’t just about resisting urges, but about understanding what truly matters in connections with others. For many years, I equated attraction with lust because that’s what I was taught from a young age. This mindset, though common, can sometimes lead us to overlook the deeper qualities that build meaningful relationships. Changing this perspective requires patience and a commitment to self-awareness. One way I’ve practiced this is by actively reminding myself to pause before reacting to temptations and to ask whether my actions align with my values and long-term happiness. It’s not easy—old habits die hard—but this approach has helped me gain a stronger sense of respect for myself and others. Building self-control doesn’t mean suppressing desires entirely; rather, it means choosing how and when to express them in healthy ways that don’t harm relationships or personal growth. Over time, this shift creates space for more genuine connections based on mutual respect instead of fleeting impulses. In addition, focusing on gratitude and self-compassion has been vital. I’ve learned to forgive myself for mistakes while still striving to improve. This balance prevents guilt from undermining progress and encourages continuous growth. For anyone on a similar path, I recommend journaling your thoughts and challenges, seeking support from trusted friends or communities, and celebrating small victories along the way. Remember, becoming better is a daily process—and each step forward is meaningful. Here’s to embracing change with patience and openness, cultivating healthier relationships, and honoring the journey of becoming the best version of ourselves.
