Why I have no friends in my late 20s.

I've always been the one growing up who never had many friends for too long. In school, I would try to make friends, but it wasn't easy for me. My home life with my parents was always hectic, which probably didn't help me develop my social skills all that much. I guess I've always been socially awkward, but because of that, I'm also someone who can't control their own emotions very well as a result. Then, when I became sixteen, my sisters were born, and my parents split later that year. What little friends I had all went off to do their own thing while I got stuck helping raise my siblings. I don't regret it. I love them a lot, but it's been lonely since then. I've met people throughout different jobs I've had, but I always find someone who hates me for being the weird caring girly. That person usually goes on to pin everyone against me, and I find myself alone again. Now, as someone who's in their late 20s. I feel like maybe I'll never find friends or people who accept me for who I am. Some days it doesn't affect me at all, I'm used to being alone. However, other days...the loneliness gets to me. I guess I've always been alone, so I would want to find someone to at least talk to, but until then, I'll just keep writing my thoughts and ideas on here to keep myself distracted.

... Read moreIt's a strange realization, isn't it? To hit your late twenties and find yourself looking around, wondering, 'Why do I have no friends?' I used to think it was just me, a personal failing, but after seeing others share similar feelings, I've started to understand it's a common struggle for many of us navigating adulthood. The twenties are a decade of immense change, and sometimes, friendships just don't survive the turbulence. We move for careers, partners, or new adventures, and suddenly, the effortless connections we had in school or college become harder to maintain. People get busy building their own lives, and the spontaneous hangouts turn into scheduled appointments that often get canceled. I’ve known friends who drifted away after getting into serious relationships, or others who moved across the country, making catch-ups nearly impossible. It's not always intentional, but the natural progression of life can leave us feeling isolated, even when we're surrounded by people. For me, the journey felt a bit different, almost like I was always on the periphery, but the outcome is similar: a quiet sense of longing for deeper connection. There's also the challenge of figuring out how to make new friends as an adult. It’s not like school where you’re thrown into a classroom with dozens of potential pals. Now, it feels like everyone already has their established circles, and breaking in can feel daunting. I've often worried about coming across as 'too much' or 'too weird,' echoing some of my past experiences where I felt singled out. It’s a vulnerable process to put yourself out there, especially after feeling rejected or misunderstood. Sometimes, it's easier to just retreat than risk another disappointment. I'm learning that perhaps the definition of 'friends' itself needs to evolve. Maybe it's not about having a huge group, but finding a few genuine connections who truly understand you. And sometimes, those connections can be found in unexpected places. I’ve heard stories of people finding their tribe through shared hobbies, volunteering, or even online communities focused on niche interests. It’s about being open to different types of interactions and letting go of the expectation that it has to look a certain way. For now, I'm trying to focus on cultivating my own happiness and interests. If I’m doing things I love, whether it’s writing, reading, or exploring new places, I figure I’m more likely to encounter people who share those passions. It’s a slow process, and some days the loneliness still hits harder than others. But I’m realizing that being comfortable in my own company is a superpower, and it’s a foundation from which genuine connections can eventually grow. It’s a journey of self-discovery, and part of that journey is understanding that it's okay to feel this way, and that things can change. We just have to keep showing up for ourselves, and for the possibility of connection.

Overall, I’ve enjoyed Notability better for school note taking! ✨Better Organization: I don’t have to flip through tons of pages to find what I’m looking for. With dividers and sections, I can easily find notes I need to review. ✨My handwriting looks better. This is probably my biggest reason!
