Great combat
Ppl say starfield doesn’t have good combat… THE COMBAT!
Okay, so let's really dive into this "Starfield combat" debate, because honestly, I feel like so many people are missing the point! When I first heard the criticisms, I was a bit worried, but after sinking well over a hundred hours into exploring the Settled Systems, blasting through aliens, and clearing out abandoned facilities, I'm genuinely scratching my head at the negativity. For me, the gunplay in Starfield is incredibly satisfying. Each weapon type feels distinct – from the satisfying kick of a calibrated shotgun ripping through a Spacer's shield to the precise, almost surgical feel of a scoped rifle taking down a Crimson Fleet pirate from a distance. The sound design really sells it too; every shot has a punch, and the enemy reactions are visceral. Headshots are particularly gratifying, often resulting in a satisfying burst that really makes you feel powerful. And let's not forget the customization! Modding your weapons at a workbench is a game-changer, allowing you to tailor your loadout exactly to your playstyle, whether you prefer stealthy takedowns or going in guns blazing. There's nothing quite like upgrading a basic pistol into a high-tech, suppressed energy weapon that can clear an entire derelict starstation without alerting a soul. Speaking of derelict starstations, these are some of my favorite combat arenas. The environmental storytelling is fantastic, and the tight corridors and multi-level layouts often lead to intense, close-quarters engagements. The enemy AI, while not revolutionary, is competent enough to provide a challenge. They'll flank you, use cover, and even push you if you stay put for too long. Facing off against a pack of alien creatures on an unexplored moon feels entirely different from a shootout with human mercenaries in a bustling city. The variety keeps things fresh, preventing combat from becoming repetitive. And then there are your powers! Integrating gravity-push or personal atmosphere into a firefight adds a whole new dimension. Imagine lifting an entire group of enemies into the air before peppering them with bullets, or creating a temporary shield to reload under fire. It transforms combat from a simple shooter into something more strategic and uniquely 'Starfield.' People often compare it to other shooters, but I think that's unfair. Starfield's combat isn't trying to be a fast-paced arena shooter; it's part of a larger RPG experience. It's deliberate, tactical, and deeply satisfying within that context. From dogfights in orbit to intense ground skirmishes, there's a breadth here that often gets overlooked. So, if you've been on the fence because of what you've heard, I urge you to experience it for yourself. You might just find, like I did, that Starfield's combat is one of its hidden strengths, offering plenty of thrills and strategic depth for those willing to engage with it.
