Developing a personal style that genuinely reflects who you are today can be both exciting and transformative. Using the 3 style word method—Practical, Aspiration, and Emotion—is an excellent way to begin identifying what makes your style uniquely yours. From my experience, starting with 'Practical' means considering your lifestyle needs first. For example, if you have a busy day-to-day schedule or work in a dynamic setting, your clothes should prioritize comfort, functionality, and versatility without compromising style. I found that choosing garments that can mix and match easily saved me time and stress each morning. 'Aspiration' is about looking forward and aligning your wardrobe with the image you want to portray. This might include incorporating pieces that inspire you or reflect your goals, such as polished blazers for confidence, or bold colors that energize you. It’s important here to dream a little but keep your reality in mind to avoid impulsive buys that don’t fit your lifestyle. Finally, 'Emotion' focuses on how your clothes make you feel. Clothes can boost your mood and convey your personality. I noticed that wearing certain textures, colors, or accessories that resonate emotionally can enhance my confidence and how I engage with others. Incorporating personal touches like vintage jewelry or favorite scarves adds character to an outfit. For those over 40, evolving your wardrobe doesn’t mean losing your essence but rather rediscovering and refining it. The 3 style word method helped me break free from wardrobe habits that no longer served me and steered me toward choices that empower and express my current self. Try writing down your three style words and see how they can guide your next wardrobe update.
