It’s okay to release what once helped you survive.
Still sitting with this.
One thing The Body Keeps the Score helped me understand is that a lot of what I thought were “bad habits” were actually survival skills that worked once.
They kept me alert.
They kept me functioning.
They kept me protected when I didn’t feel safe yet.
But the book also reminded me that survival strategies don’t expire on their own.
They stay until the body learns something new.
This is one of those books I don’t rush through.
I come back to it when my reactions feel bigger than the moment.
I keep it close, not because I’m broken, but because understanding changes how I respond to myself.
It’s okay to release what once helped you survive.
Not with force.
With awareness.
