day in my life 🖤 as a grad student

Hi everyone! ☀️

Please excuse me as I’m catching up with my diml posts! I’ve been taking pics since January, but finally have some time to really put them together. So I’m sorry that this one is fro January lol 😂

Nothing much has changed since. Most of my days have been going to work, class, and trying to really eat three healthy meals a day. Winter in the Midwest is really non existent…as I’m writing this in March.

Can’t wait to share with you my new resolve as I catch up on the days!

... Read moreIt's funny how quickly days turn into weeks, especially in grad school. My original post was from January, but honestly, the grind as a 2nd year PhD student rarely lets up! A typical 'day in my life' often starts later than I’d like, especially when I have a night class stretching into the evening. It’s all about finding a rhythm that works for you, even if it means sacrificing early mornings sometimes. One of my biggest challenges, as I mentioned, is consistently eating three healthy meals. It’s so easy to grab something quick, but I’ve found that even simple things make a difference. For lunch, I often whip up something with what I have on hand – like those delicious tomatoes I was craving. And after what often feels like a 'long a** day,' there’s nothing quite like looking forward to my favorite comfort food, like a warm bowl of Vietnamese nui soup. It’s those little moments of joy that keep me going during the intense 'beginning of the semester grind.' Beyond the books and lectures, building a comfortable and functional environment is key, though I admit my office, which I've had for 2 years, is still a work in progress! It's a reminder that not everything has to be perfect. Sometimes, it’s the small comforts, like a cozy Uniqlo cardigan gifted by a friend, that brighten up a winter day in the Midwest. And, of course, staying hydrated is a must – my Hydro Flask is always by my side, especially during those intense study sessions fueled by a good cup of Maxim coffee. If you're a grad student, you know the feeling. It’s about managing expectations, celebrating small victories, and finding ways to recharge. Whether it’s catching up on posts or simply enjoying a moment, sharing these experiences helps us all feel a little less alone in this journey. What are your go-to strategies for making grad school life manageable and even enjoyable?

I love summer as a graduate student because you have so much flexibility in your schedule and get to do research full time. I get a lot of questions of what this looks like, so here is an example of my day: Started with a coffee from starbs as a pre-day treat to get me motivated. I know it sound

how I balance school & life in grad school
Grad school is tough for many different reasons, but I would say one of the biggest challenges that most grad students face is finding a work life balance. For me I found it’s even worse than undergrad because there’s less scheduled activities and there’s just a lot more work to do with higher stak
