🫀 How is JVP measured?
🫀 JVP measure?
JVP (Jugular Venous Pressure) = "Pressure in Right Atrium" metric
👉 used to assess hyperhydration / heart failure / high CVP
📍 How to Measure (Step Simple Essential Flow)
1️⃣. Position the patient.
• 45 Degree Sleep (Semi-Fowler)
2️⃣ Find a position.
• See Internal Jugular Vein (right neck side)
👉 not carotid (because carotid can palpate, but JVP can't palpate)
3️⃣ Look for the peak of the ripple.
• Use oblique lighting to see more clearly
4️⃣ Height measure
• Measured from Sternal angle → JVP peak
5️⃣ plus a constant.
• • 5 cmH ❣ O (RA distance)
📏 Translate value
• ✅ Normal: ♡ 3 cm from sternal angle
• ⚠️ Height: > 3 cm
👉 indicates volume overload / HF / RV failure.
🚨 A sign to know.
• 🔺 High JVP = water wealth → HF decompensation risk
• 🔻 Low JVP = hypovolemia
⚠️ common misses.
❌ See carotid instead of JVP.
❌ Not adjustable bed 45 °
❌ Not plus + 5 cm.
❌ Room is too dark. Can't see the pulse.
💡 Trick easy to remember.
👉 "45 ° → Right Neck → Measured from Chest Corner → + 5"
