Pumping for colostrum, 38 weeks pregnant

This is my second pregnancy, I am 38 weeks pregnant and I’ve decided to give myself a chance to breastfeed and to pump. With my daughter (6 yrs old now) I feel like I didn’t give myself a chance and I also think maybe I wasn’t in the right head space. I definitely put a lot of pressure on myself as a new mom. This time around I did my research, purchased the correct nipple flange, did things at my speed with no pressure.

I’m so happy to share I was able to pump out colostrum.

🚨Keep in mind, your midwife or physician should give you the ok to start pumping while pregnant. Which most suggest to wait till you are 37 weeks because it can cause you to have contractions and induce labor. 🚨

... Read morePumping colostrum can be a rewarding experience during your pregnancy. At 38 weeks, many mothers begin to prepare for breastfeeding by pumping colostrum, the first milk packed with nutrients. It's essential to consult your healthcare provider before starting pumping, as they can guide you on the right timing. Most advice suggests waiting until at least 37 weeks to avoid premature contractions that may induce labor. Research shows that pumping colostrum can not only help you establish a better breastfeeding routine but may also ease the transition for both you and your newborn. Understanding your body, and learning how to use a breast pump effectively, can boost your confidence as a new mother. Many women find that breastfeeding is more manageable when they have prepared ahead of time by gathering the right tools, such as nipple flanges that suit their body. Join communities online or in-person that focus on breastfeeding. Such support systems provide valuable advice, shared experiences, and emotional encouragement. Remember, every pregnancy is unique, and it's perfectly okay to seek help and make informed decisions tailored specifically to your circumstances. Your journey through motherhood should be filled with empowerment and understanding.
