When I was 11, there was a girl in my class who seemed to make it her mission to break me down. Every single day she called me names “ugly,” “fat,” “stupid.” I started dreading school, walking slower to class, hoping she wouldn’t notice me.
At that age, I didn’t know how to fight back. Instead, I believed her. I carried those words for years, and honestly, they shaped how I saw myself well into adulthood.
Now, looking back, I don’t feel anger anymore. I don’t wish her harm. But I also can’t say I forgive her. Because those words stayed with me for a long time, and forgiveness doesn’t erase the impact.
