🌐🐢 "gooseberry turtle," the giant of the sea, who keeps the balance of the ocean.

Did you know that the Leatherback Turtle is the largest sea turtle in the world? Adults are more than two meters long and weigh up to 900 kilograms! Its carapace is not scales like a normal turtle, but thick black parchment with seven convex ridges along its length that look like a gooseberry, which is the origin of the Thai name we are familiar with.

Gooseberry turtles are top-class scuba divers, diving up to 1,280 meters and swimming as fast as 35 km / h, mostly living in the open sea, far from the coast and often in cold water zones.

During the spawning period, the mother turtle comes up to the beach to dig a pit of about 60 to 100 eggs, and it takes about two months to hatch before the baby turtle crawls into the sea and starts life on its own.

• In some areas: Critically Endangered

• 🇹🇭 in Thailand: is classified as a "reserved animal" and is the least common sea turtle.
