Do This Instead Of Sit-ups.

2025/10/16 Edited to

... Read moreI remember feeling so frustrated after having my baby. My tummy just wasn't going back to normal, and no matter how many crunches I did, it felt like my abs were just pushing out even more. Sound familiar? That's when I discovered the real reason behind that 'mommy pooch' for many of us: diastasis recti. It's basically a separation of those outermost abdominal muscles, and if you have it, traditional sit-ups and crunches can actually make it worse! They put pressure outwards, exacerbating the problem instead of helping. For so long, I was confused, thinking, 'why do my abs push out?' even when I was trying to exercise. It felt like I was doing everything right, but my core just wasn't responding. Learning about diastasis recti was a lightbulb moment. It explained why those classic 'core exercises' I used to do were counterproductive. Instead of building strength, they were just adding strain to an already weakened area. Instead of doing endless sit-ups, I started incorporating a specific move that truly targets the deep core. The key is to focus on slow, controlled movements. I do 3 rounds of 12 slow reps, making sure to keep my core grounded throughout the entire exercise. It's not about speed or force, but about connecting with those deep abdominal muscles. This particular exercise has been a game-changer for me; it's so much better than crunches or sit-ups for rebuilding core strength and helping to close that abdominal gap safely. If you're wondering if you have diastasis recti, try gently feeling for a gap above or below your belly button when you lightly crunch. If you feel a separation, you might have it. Don't worry, there's hope! Beyond this specific exercise, I've also learned the importance of proper breathing (think transverse abdominis activation) and maintaining good posture throughout my day. It's a holistic approach, and while it takes patience, the results are so rewarding. This isn't a quick fix, but a sustainable way to regain your core strength and feel more confident. There are many fantastic free core exercises out there that focus on healing rather than straining, and consistency is truly what makes the difference. Remember to listen to your body and focus on engaging those deep core muscles, keeping them grounded, rather than just crunching away. It's a journey, and you're not alone in it!

how to offer comfort instead of solutions 🫂
showing up for the people we love can be hard. and we don’t talk about it enough! we’re rarely taught how to support our loved ones. and even though we really care about them, sometimes learning how to just falls by the wayside. if you’ve ever found yourself struggling to comfort someone you lov
