Why I wake up at 5am

And you don’t have to…..

I know I said it, you don’t have to wake up at 5 AM

This wake up time is something I see plastered everywhere as the best time to wake up but in reality it’s what’s practical for me. What works for me might not work for you and that’s OK. Your schedule should not revolve around other people success stories but your own.

I would think that if I didn’t wake up at 5 AM that I was a failure, I was unproductive and that I couldn’t get anything done and as someone who now wakes up at 5 AM I’m here to tell you, I feel the same. No amount of waking up at 5 AM is going to make me any different. the only reason I do it now is because it’s what best fits my schedule.

So please if you feel like you have to wake up at 5 AM to be successful, you don’t, all you need for success is yourself, motivation and a dream!

... Read moreI've shared my personal journey with the 5 AM wake-up call, emphasizing that it's not a one-size-fits-all solution for success. But I know many of you are curious about why this trend is so popular and if there are actual benefits for some people. Let's dive a little deeper into what the "5 AM Club" promises and how you can figure out if an early start truly aligns with your goals and body. For many, the allure of waking up at 5 AM stems from a desire for more control over their day. The quiet solitude of those early hours can be perfect for deep work, creative tasks, or personal reflection before the demands of the day kick in. I've personally experienced moments of incredible focus during this time, where I can tick off significant tasks without interruption. It's often touted as a way to "win the morning" – to get a head start on your to-do list, exercise, meditate, or simply enjoy a peaceful cup of coffee. The theory is that by accomplishing something meaningful before others even stir, you build momentum and a sense of achievement that carries through the rest of your day. This can be a powerful motivator for some, creating a positive feedback loop. However, it's crucial to remember that these benefits are only realized if the routine truly fits your life. If you're constantly fighting your natural sleep cycle, sacrificing essential rest, or feeling burnt out, then the supposed benefits quickly evaporate. This is where those handwritten motivational messages on a mirror, like the ones I've seen, really come into play. It's not just about setting an alarm; it's about setting intentions and understanding your 'why.' If your 'why' isn't strong enough, or if the routine is unsustainable, then it becomes a source of stress, not success. So, how can you figure out if a 5 AM wake-up or any earlier start time is right for *you*? Assess Your Chronotype: Are you naturally a morning lark or a night owl? Trying to force a 5 AM wake-up as a night owl might be an uphill battle against your biology. Listen to your body's natural rhythms. Evaluate Your Sleep Needs: Most adults need 7-9 hours of sleep. If you're going to bed at midnight and waking at 5 AM, you're severely sleep-deprived, which will negate any perceived benefits. Prioritize getting enough sleep *first*. Consider Your Current Schedule: Does your job, family life, or social commitments make an early bedtime impossible? Be realistic. A sustainable routine is better than a fleeting, perfect one. Start Gradually: If you do want to try shifting your wake-up time, don't jump straight to 5 AM. Try moving your alarm back by 15-30 minutes each week. This gives your body time to adjust. Define Your Purpose: What will you do with that extra time? Having a clear plan—whether it's for exercise, learning, creative pursuits, or quiet reflection—will make the effort more worthwhile and help you stay consistent. Ultimately, whether it's 5 AM or 7 AM, the goal is to create a morning routine that empowers you, not exhausts you. It's about finding your optimal schedule for productivity and well-being. Don't let external pressures dictate your personal rhythm. Instead, use tools like setting daily intentions or having those little motivational notes around you to remind yourself of your unique path to success.
