🧭 When "Meaning" Became a Life Force: Decoding Viktor Frankl's Psychology

This is a vignette in the "Habit & Mindset" format inspired by psychology theory, the work of Viktor Frankl, an Austrian psychiatrist who founded Logotherapy (Semantic Therapy) to get you to apply, develop your mind and find the power to live.

🧭 When "Meaning" Became a Life Force: Decoding Viktor Frankl's Psychology

"People with a" reason to live "will be able to tolerate virtually any form of" way of living. "

In the most brutal moments of humanity, Viktor Frankl, an Austrian psychiatrist who survived a Nazi concentration camp, discovered a truth that changed the view of psychology forever. He believed that what drives humans is not happiness or power, but "meaning."

And when humans have meaning, life - (even) on the hardest days - can still walk.

A small gap that changes a lifetime.

Frankl proposed a simple but powerful concept:

Between "stimulus" (what happens to us) and "response" (what we choose to do), there is a small hidden "gap."

That gap is our "inner freedom."

Although we may not control events as much as work fails, relationships have problems, or lives are not as we hoped, we still have the right to be 100% decisive in choosing our own "attitude."

Strong people are not people who don't run into trouble.

But people who consciously "choose how to look at" problems.

A simple example: two people who have lost their jobs have lost their jobs at the same time.

* One sees "life is broken."

* Another saw "this could be a new starting opportunity."

The same situation, but different meanings, so each person's life goes a different way.

Humans do not want an easy life, but a "meaningful" life.

Frankl calls this internal thrust "Will to Mean."

Or the need to know what our lives are for.

When a person "lacks meaning," there is a so-called "mental vacuum."

Which is often expressed in the form of:

â€Ē Chronic boredom

â€Ē The feeling of emptiness

â€Ē Or even despair for no apparent reason.

But the good news is that "meaning" is not something to wait for on a great day, it can be created in everyday life through three main ways:

1. Creation

Do something valuable, whether it's work, studying or helping someone.

2. Link (Experience)

Loving someone, being with family, or even absorbing a small beauty like the morning sun.

3. Attitude to suffering

When suffering is inevitable, we can give it meaning, such as patience to wait for a loved one, or growing out of pain.

Happiness is not something to pursue.

Frankl pointed out that happiness is not a direct goal.

But it is the "result" of living a meaningful life.

The more obsessed we are with "wanting to be happy,"

The more empty we feel.

But when we turn to focusing on something bigger than ourselves, such as a valuable job, someone we love, or something we believe in, happiness gradually comes about on its own without trying. This is what is called "Self-Transcendence," transcending from self-centered to living for something more important.

The question that changed a whole life.

Instead of asking ourselves, "What does life give me?"

Because, in Frankl's view, life never stops questioning us, and our answers won't just be words.

But the actions we take each day and the responsibilities we choose to bear.

Some days. The meaning can be big.

Some days it can be very small.

Like taking better care of yourself or doing your best.

But no matter how small it is,

If it makes you want to rise again tomorrow,

That's the real meaning. ⏱ïļ

"Life is not meaningless because of suffering.

But it will be meaningless if we cannot find a reason to live with it. "

Writer, rawroot.
