europe is NOT that big 😭

5 days agoEdited to

... Read moreTraveling across Europe often surprises people with how close everything seems, leading to the common feeling that "Europe is NOT that big." From my personal experiences and conversations with locals, regional differences add layers of complexity and charm to this relatively compact continent. One unexpected example is the discussion around English tap water, which varies greatly between regions. For instance, some areas in the south of England have hard water rich in chalk, leading locals to jokingly describe physical effects such as 'stalagmites inside me.' In contrast, places like Fig Springs boast much cleaner and softer water, which can be a relief to visitors used to the harsher varieties. This shows how even within a single country or region, subtle environmental variations can impact daily life and perceptions. Moreover, the cultural nuances and short travel distances between cities make Europe unique. You might be just a two-hour drive away from a completely different lifestyle, cuisine, or dialect, yet these differences create a sense of diversity that enriches the travel experience rather than diminishing the continent’s size. Understanding these factors helps explain why Europe might feel smaller but also incredibly diverse and interesting. Such insights make traveling or living in Europe a continuously engaging experience, where even minor details like tap water composition can become part of local identity and conversation.
