Work travel as a nurse- what I wish I knew

As a nurse practitioner that works in the corporate world, my role requires about 20-40% travel. This basically just means that this is the predicted amount of travel I’ll be doing out of my full time hours.

So what am I doing when I travel for work? A big part of my role is building partnerships with physicians and healthcare teams- when I travel it’s either to establish/ nurture those relationship OR to attend conferences to identity new leads. Sometimes the travel can be hectic and I have multiple big meetings scheduled where I need to present. Other times it’s a little more laid back, like attending a conference and staffing a conference booth.

As a nurse at the bedside I had no clue what people meant when they said they traveled for work, so trying to shed some light on it!

Curious, are you for or against-traveling for work?

When you take on a role that requires travel, such as attending conferences and meetings, it’s vital to prepare effectively. Tips include setting clear objectives for your trips, managing time efficiently to balance work commitments with personal time, and ensuring you maintain a healthy work-life balance.
